We, like many of you sartorially concerned males, were caught off guard by last week’s summer-esque weather, so we’ve put together this helpful list to aid you with the upcoming warmer temperatures.
1: Colorful Bottoms: Black jeans may be your go to during the frigid months but Spring 2012 is all about the colorful bottom. From Phillip Lim to Zegna, colorful pants were a part of every runway show. From Phillip Lim’s dip-dyed canvas pants to Gap’s red skinny jeans, the trend takes on many variations meaning anyone can rock this spring look. For those on the timid side, you may want to warm up to this trend by experimenting with a green or beige color. Those of you who aren’t afraid to dive right into this trend should definitely go with a red pant, which can be found almost anywhere.
2. James Nares for Coach Canvas Tote: Recently Coach has been stepping up their game when it comes to men’s bags. They recently collaborated with Hugo Guinness on a line of limited edition bags and leather accessories and Spring 2012 brings another collaboration with the artist James Nares. James Nares is best known for his gravity-defining brushstroke paintings and for the collaboration his iconic brushstroke images have been printed on canvas tote bags. The bags come in five bold colors and are set to his stores for May 2012. These canvas bags are a great alternative to the boring leather briefcase and their lack of the Coach “C’s” makes them perfect for any guy.

3. Loafer/Slipper: Once associated with the elderly male, the loafer has been making a comeback for the past few seasons and Spring 2012 might just be the climax of this trend. Lauded for their comfort level, now you can obtain the comfort without having to forego looks. If you’re feeling this trend you should definitely check out the loafer’s close relative the slipper, which has been taken out of the bedroom and onto the streets with innovative styles from Stubbs & Wootton and Del Toro Shoes.

4. Shorts: Shorts are a spring staple but it’s time to elevate these bad boys from the typical khaki cargo to something a bit more refined. Flat front shorts are a great way to battle the summer heat while avoiding the “frat bro” look. Some of the best ways to elevate the basic short are to go for an unexpected print à la Burberry or unexpected details such as a leather pocket à la Alexander Wang.
5. Prints: Prints are this season’s black. For the past few seasons’ women have been rocking the printed look and it has finally carried over into the men’s shows. Whether it be check, floral or anything in between, printed is definitely a must have for Spring 2012. A great way to wear the trend without looking like a walking bouquet is to wear a basic collared shirt in a floral print or a light knit in a geometric print
