Extreme Colors

That’s right ladies, we said it, extreme color is a DO for summer. Dip-dyed locks, brightly dyed roots, and radical ombrés were all over the runways. A fun (and temporary) way to incorporate this trend is by using hair chalk. We suggest Kevin Murphy’s COLOR.BUG which is available in colors including purple, orange, and pink. Buy it here.

Intricate Braids and Buns

Braids and buns are always a summer standard. During S/S 2012 Fashion Week, we saw a collaboration of the two styles, into an elaborate basket-bun, at Christopher Esber, elaborate beehive-braided heads at Alexander McQueen, and ethereal crowns of braids at Valentino. Not a master hairstylist? A classic fishtail is an easy way to achieve this season’s look.

Looped Ponytails

There is no such thing as a boring ponytail this summer. At Marc by Marc Jacobs, we saw a ponytail-bun combo that’s super easy to do, and just as cute! Simply make a high pony, flip it forward and pin with a thin clip. Flip it back down toward your neck and secure with another clip to get the desired look.

Accessorized Up-Do

Hair accessories are in this season and since the temperature’s rising, the best way is to wear them is with your hair up and off your neck. Big name designers such as Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, and Louis Vuitton incorporated shiny clips and decorative headbands into their spring runway shows, creating memorable and pretty looks. One of our favorite headpieces this summer is the turban. Get yours here.

Wet Look

Perhaps the easiest look for summer is the drenched tresses that we saw on both Alexander Wang’s and Alberta Ferretti’s runways. If you’re not into spending much time on your hair and can’t deal with the blow dryer in the heat, the good news is you don’t have to! Simply wash your hair, add a liberal amount of your favorite styling product, and leave it to dry. It’s that easy!
