Super Bowl Sunday is almost upon us, but if you haven’t made plans to fly down to Tampa or to wild out at a house party, there’s no need to panic. The bars, grills, taverns, and pubs of New York City have all kinds of specials tailor-made for the 43rd installment of America’s biggest sporting spectacle. Here at Joonbug, we’ve combed the city for the most enticing deals that the city’s establishments have to offer you:
Some people are looking forward to a high-scoring game for entertainment purposes, but The Trinity Pub, Banshee Pub, and Gael Pub are all giving patrons an extra incentive to root for an offense-heavy shootout. These three pubs are all giving away free shots for every touchdown scored by either team. Here’s to hoping that Larry Fitzgerald tears through the Steeler’s formidable defense for a couple of touchdowns. But the shots-for-touchdowns giveaway isn’t the only thing that these bars are offering - they will have a free buffet at halftime, and if you like Budweiser or Bud Light, you’re in luck, because bottles will be available for $3, and pitchers for $12.
This combination of deals certainly make Trinity, Banshee, and Gael very attractive destinations - but they’re certainly not the only ones. If you like margaritas better than Bud Light, you should stop by Calico Jack’s. This 2nd Avenue bar will be selling their celebrated amply-sized margaritas for a paltry three dollars - less than you would often find a draft beer for at another bar on a regular night.
McFadden’s, right next door to Calico Jack’s, will offer three dollar drafts, but that’s about it in terms of discounted drinks. The real reason to spend Super Bowl Sunday here is that if you’re feeling particularly gluttonous, they have an all you can eat wings special for ten dollars. Many places are using Super Bowl Sunday to offer 25-cent and 30-cent wings, so if you think you can handle over 40 wings, this will actually turn out to be a prudent investment.
Another place offering some notable deals is The Big Easy on the Upper East Side which will apparently be giving out free Coor’s Light from 4 to 5, and will subsequently feature one dollar drafts and two dollar mixed drinks. There is also an event being billed as a ‘kill the keg’ pregame party, and it is also rumored that there will be a performance by a Bruce Springstein impresario at halftime.
If you’re a bigger fan of barbecued pork than wings, the traditional Super Bowl mainstay, scope out The Waterstone Grill, where $25 will not only get you unlimited Bud, Bud Light, and wings, but also unlimited barbecued pork sliders available in seven flavors. Also of note is The Mad River Grille, which will have half-priced burgers, a free wings buffet at halftime, ten dollar pitchers and fifteen dollar buckets of either Bud Light or Coors Light.
