Yesterday kicked off City Harvest’s tenth annual Skip Lunch Fight Hunger fundraiser campaign. From May 14th until Friday May 18th, City Harvest is asking people to donate what would typically be used as their lunch money to New York City schoolchildren in need. City Harvest doesn’t want their generous donors to go hungry either though! So pack a homemade brown bagged lunch, or eat leftovers, on the day you pledge your money, because no one should ever go without the proper amount of food each day.

With the ten dollars you set aside for lunch each day, often times without thinking twice, City Harvest will be able to feed an astounding 37 children. For many children this time of year is a countdown to summer vacation and carefree days. But many don’t realize that with the end of the school year some of the children, who depend on school lunches during the school week, may face hunger throughout the summer months. Help City Harvest provides meals for these children and their families by pledging your lunch money today, tomorrow, or for the remainder of the week.

Last year’s Skip Lunch Fight Hunger event feed almost 24,000 children and their families with the $500,000 donated by people across the city. It’s truly amazing how much can be done when a small portion of money is set aside to help those in need. So far this year’s event has raised $94,873 from online donations alone and that number is sure to rise.
