Perhaps the only private club in Manhattan that has managed to become MORE exclusive the more bad press it gets; Socialista, our favorite love-to-hate-it Red lounge, continues to rock on the far west side. With a door manned by pros from Bungalow 8, Socialista is almost as hard as Cuba to get into. Lazily spinning fans and plantation-shuddered windows stand over leather couches and an antique bar, creating atmosphere of colonial West Indian glamour. On Tuesdays, live Cuban music makes the young model and celeb studded crowd move their hips. Investors including Sting, Harvey Weinstein, and Giuseppe Cipriani, ensure the crowd is always upscale. For the every day partygoer, the minimum tab for table service might appear more like their maximum. Downstairs a small Cuban cafe serves up mini Cuban sandwiches and other light fare.
