Street vendors are to New York City as a Cabernet Sauvignon is to a Filet Mignon.  They help to provide a beautiful balance of flavor in an already rich and palatable land.  Reliable and convenient, they provide countless cups of morning coffee for people on their way to work and late night snacks for those partygoers who worked up an appetite.  This September 15th we celebrate their presence and honor the best in the city at the 2012 NYC Vendy Awards.

The Vendys are both a food showcase and cook-off between the city’s most reputable street vendors.  There are a list of awards that the vendors will be competing for and patrons get to enjoy all the food their bellies can stand, in addition to wine, beer and non-alcoholic beverage options.  A percentage of the proceeds from ticket purchases go to Street Vendor Project, a non-for-profit organization dedicated to the rights of vendors.

An interactive event, visitors will be able to help pick winners in the categories of People's Taste Award as well as Dessert, Rookie Vendor and Market Vendor of the Year.  There will be live music, performances, a raffle and a wrap where the award winners will be announced.

This event takes place on Governor’s Island and has already sold out of Early Bird tickets.  Tickets are expected to sell out so interested patrons should buy as soon as possible.  Children are welcome and are free if they are under 8 years of age. Tickets can be purchased online here.
