Latin cuisine is all the rage these days and there's no better place to enjoy it than at Pampano Botaneria
. The small downstairs brother to Richard Sandoval's Pampano
, this smaller, more casual half of the restaurant is the way to go. This dimly lit, romantic setting makes anyone want to hunker down for a feast. The best part of this place is that all menu items are served tapas-style...which means you don't have to pick and choose what you want, you can try everything!
They offer everything from ceviche
to empanadas, but let me tell you about the real standouts on this menu. Something you don't see everyday are the Nachitos
($9), and they are not your average nachos. Made with manchego, cabrales, and cheddar cheeses, adobo pulled pork, black beans, pico de gallo, and crema, this unassuming dish is a real knockout. Like any good Mexican/Latino resto, Pampano Botaneria serves up some mean Meatballs
($7), made of pork and beef and smothered in a tomato chipotle sauce and adds just the right amount of spice to their Patatas Bravas
($6), with roasted fingerling potatoes, chipotle aioli, and chorizo. Those are just a few of my favorites, but you can't go wrong with a single item on their menu.
Kiwi Rose Sangria
But now we move on to the drinks. The Botaneria offers up a whopping eight different sangrias, available by the glass and small or large pitcher. From traditional red or white sangrias, all the way to kiwi rose and sparkling strawberry mint, there's a flavor there for everyone. And if you're not up for one of those offerings, they offer up nine different specialty cocktails, including their Margarita Pampano
($13, agavales blanco, hibiscus) and Mango Mezcal Paloma
($12, Scorpion Silver, mango, chile piquin, lime, soda).
And if you like to mix it up every once in a while, check out $2 Taco Tuesdays or their happy hour specials weeknights from 5-7pm and Saturdays from 5pm until closing. During happy hour, cocktails and wines are only $6 and beers are $4. There are also specially priced tapas.
So if you're hankering for some good Coastal Mexican bites...now you know where you better head to! Vamos!
