The majority of coffee drinkers can’t function properly until they have their morning cup of Joe and many more of us have a hard time passing up happy hour with our friends after a long, often coffee-fueled, work day. The Coffee Cocktail Mash Up competition combines both of these beloved liquid commodities with an extra shot of competition. The Coffee Cocktail Mash Up pairs up a barista and a bartender to mix a caffeinated cocktail that will then be judged on its flavor, balance, concept, and presentation. The judge’s panel includes Robert Simonson of the New York Times, Mari Uyehara of Time Out New York, Kara Newman of Wine Enthusiast, Shawn Kelly of Pernod Richard, and Mike White of Shotzombie.com

The second annual Coffee Cocktail Mash Up on Sunday June 25, will be held at Tribeca’s Weather Up beginning at 5 p.m. Competing in this year’s cocktail mash up will be Teresa von Fuchs, a coffee and espresso consultant for the iconic Dallis Bros. Coffee. Teresa has previously judged the U.S. Barista Competition, trained competitors for the Northeast Regional Barista Competition, as well as competed in the Brewers Cup. Her Mash Up teammate will be Meaghan Doorman, bartender at Raines Law Room. The duo will grind and stir against four other teams of baristas and bartenders.
Spectators won’t miss out on a chance to be properly caffeinated and catch a buzz while at the Coffee Cocktail Mash Up. Those in attendance will be able to enjoy Dallis Bros. Coffee’s single origin espresso from their espresso bar. Dallis Bros. Coffee, founded by Abe and Morris Dallis in 1913, operates their roast house right in Ozone Park, Queens using beans sourced from their own farm in Brazil. Spectators will also sip on a complimentary and deliciously caffeinated coffee cocktail. Standard bar drinks and bar bites will be available at the Weather Up bar.
Proceeds of ticket sales ($20) will be donated to the panel members “Coffee: The Missing Ingredient” a new seminar discussing coffee cocktails. The funds raised during Sunday’s event will help cover the travel expenses of these members to attend this seminar at Tales of the Cocktail in New Orleans this upcoming July.
