'Wichcraft' Debuts in the New York Public Library
But it's not Harry Potter...

Scholars and tourists will no longer have to sneak in snacks while visiting The New York City Public Library. Tom Colicchio’s sandwich chain, ‘Wichcraft,’ opened their one year pilot in the main branch of the New York Public Library today. This new venture, finally inside the library instead of just in Bryant Park, will consist of two mobile sandwich carts offering library patrons and visitors a simple menu of sandwiches, pastries, ice cream and beverages during regular library hours. Friends of the Library will receive a ten percent discount on their purchases.

The library agreed to let ‘Wichcraft’ set up shop at the request of library employees and guests who voiced their want of an eatery within the library. If the museums all have lavish cafeterias, the library shouldn’t be excluded. The carts will be set up in Astor Hall, the main hall of the library and on the second floor's central corridor. Patrons of the carts will only be able to pay by credit card and eat within restricted areas surrounding the carts to avoid any crumbs in the countless, ancient reference books found in the main library.

Sandwich prices will range from $4.82 to $9.87 and will include a roasted turkey sandwich with avocado, bacon, onion relish, and aioli on a ciabatta roll ($9.87) and a Chunky PB & J with Greenmarket fruit preserves on triple-decker Pullman white bread ($4.82) and others. For a sweet snack, signature cream’wiches will also be on sale for $1.15 in chocolate, peanut butter, or oatmeal.
