Spring break is the highlight of every college student’s spring semester - a week when students slam their books shut and welcome in sandy beaches, all-night parties, and enough tropical drinks to make any engineering student forget the simplest of math equations. This year, house music fans are in luck because College Travel Experts and Prime Social Group have teamed up to host Electro Beach, a 42 night spring break music experience that promises to give students a spring break like no other.

Beginning Feb. 25, college students will invade beautiful Puerto Vallarta, Mexico to take the definition of spring break raging to a whole new level. The six-week festival boasts a line-up of some of the biggest DJs in the scene such as Tiesto, Calvin Harris, Avicii, Steve Aoki, Laidback Luke, and a myriad of other superstars. College Travel Experts is no stranger to the spring break arena, with nearly five years of successful student trips under its belt. And with the help of PSG, commonly considered one of the most-respected concert promotions agencies in the college realm, Electro Beach is sure to give attendees a week they’ll never forget (or never remember, depending on alcohol consumption which is covered in the all-inclusive package).

“Our mission was to construct a platform in which college students in a 17- 22 market had the to opportunity to gather with their friends and witness the level of talent that performs at shows across the world - the outcome was Electro Beach,” said Zach Ruben, Co-Founder of PSG.

PSG has already worked with many of Electro Beach’s performers, having promoted shows starring Grammy-nominees Tiesto, Skrillex, and Avicii. Forecast 2012: EDM´s Biggest Names on the Rise

The past year has seen a tremendous amount of talent burst into the world of electronic music. From the amateurs to the veterans, producers and DJs alike continue to raise the bar with groundbreaking genre crossing, technical innovation, and production speed that’s borderline ridiculous.

With considerable new material on the scene, there are many names that stand out in terms of who to be on the lookout for in 2012 - and we’re not just talking about your latest friend who downloaded Serato. While choosing a few from the masses is quite a task, a mix of both newcomer and professional talent should be recognized. Some of these artists have already obtained massive popularity for their work while others are still emerging from the shadows (or basements for that matter). Regardless, it is safe to say that the future seems bright for all, so make sure to give these artists a listen.

Fareoh

After a massive breakout year in 2011, Fareoh is the perfect example of a young producer/DJ who is quickly on the rise. Lighting up the world of progressive house with distinct uplifting and melodic tracks, Fareoh first showcased his talent with his epic remix of Wynter Gordon’s “Buy My Love.” His live energy is contagious and his mixing skills exceptional, and all who can attempt to remember dancing euphorically to his sets at the Santos Electric Beach parties can attest to this. If it weren´t more clear that Fareoh is a name to follow in the coming year, just check out his latest track, a collaboration with fellow rising DJ Archie. V. Appropriately entitled “2012,” this tune will become an instant classic and might even put your head back into summer mode.

Alesso

This one might be a given, but it would be just wrong to overlook perhaps the biggest name in emerging talent of 2011. Standing alongside mentor Sebastian Ingrosso, Alesso continues to establish his name by relentlessly releasing massive tracks, each one better than the next. If “Good Love” doesn’t have you belting out those feel-good, epic vocals, try getting the riff of “Calling” out of your head. This Swedish star shows no signs of slowing down in the year to come, so be sure to keep an eye on the once suspected fourth member of the Mafia as he continues to tear 2012 up.

Otto Knows

Something about the Swedes and house music just seem to work perfectly together, and Otto Knows is no exception. As another young producer signed to Seb Ingrosso’s Refune label, Otto Knows has also been turning heads of SHM members and house stars alike, as the young star has additionally be taken under Avicii’s wing. His beautiful remix of Imogen Heap’s “Hide and Seek” has displayed his tremendous potential, and the buzz his new track “Million Voices” is generating is enough to predict immense success for the coming year. As featured on the "young blood" section of the first episode on Refune Radio show , this track has Ingrosso declaring Otto Knows to be one to absolutely look out for. Given his track record in finding new talent in the world of EDM, we can hardly disagree.

Tim Mason

We’re all familiar with those catchy house riffs that play over and over in our heads, often leading to ridiculous group chanting (think “Calling,” circa Electric Zoo). For anyone who’s heard Tim Mason’s “The Moment,” this track undeniably triggers such a familiar sensation. The UK-based producer burst onto the scene under Steve Angello’s Size label, and has taken the house scene by storm with this anthem. In addition, his remixes of Red Hot Chili Pepper’s “Otherside” and Nadia Ali’s “Pressure” showcase the British prospect’s talent as a rising producer, and he remains a name to watch as we roll into 2012.

Arty

Having already laid down some of the biggest tracks in trance and progressive house, Russian producer Arty is a name that has been floating around for a bit of time now. Turning the heads of some of the biggest names in the EDM world, Arty proudly represents Above and Beyond’s Anjunabeats label and has obtained tremendous support from Armin van Buuren, Axwell, Chuckie, and the like. Though he has established himself with massive tracks such as “Around the World” and “Kate,” this Russian talent shows no signs of slowing down in the year to come – in fact, quite the opposite - moving up 53 spots in the DJ Mag Top 100. His distinctive tracks and style exemplify what “trouse” is all about, and we can bet that he will continue to enlighten us with this innovation all throughout the coming year.

He's Back: The Boss Returns With Wrecking Ball

Former writer and editor for Rolling Stone, Jon Landau, reviewed a concert in 1974 and famously said the following: “I saw rock and roll’s future--and its name is Bruce Springsteen.”

Landau would go on to become a co-producer of Born to Run management, band manager and executive producer of Wrecking Ball, Springsteen’s 17^th studio album, slated to be released March 6^th on Colombia Records. The album will feature 11 new original tracks.

“Bruce has dug down as deep as he can to come up with this vision of modern life," Landau expresses on the Springsteen homepage.

"The lyrics tell a story you can't hear anywhere else...and.... The writing is some of the best of his career and both veteran fans and those who are new to Bruce will find much to love on 'Wrecking Ball.”

In celebration of the effort, we presume, is the Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band 2012 tour. The Wrecking Ball world tour kicks off in Atlanta, GA on March 18^th and wraps up in Bruce’s native New Jersey (Newark) where curtains fall May 2^nd. The summer months continue rigorously from May 13^th to July 31, parading around various locales in Europe.

Bruce aficionados will recognize this to be the first official tour for Bruce and The E Street band without legendary sideman saxophonist and friend, Clarence Clemmons, who died of complications from a stroke last June. Many a show between Springsteen and the E Street Band concluded with Bruce and Clarence in a hugging embrace. No word yet as to who may play horn in lieu of Clemmons on the tour.

The album and show, however, are expected to hark back to the yesteryear of Bruce’s career. “We Take Care Of Our Own,” the album’s leading track is getting buzz for being what Rolling Stone calls “classic Springsteen.” Billboard agrees, describing “a richly orchestrated Wall of Sound, that nods to the ‘Born to Run’ era.”

Swedish House Mafia fans rejoice: Sebastian Ingrosso and special guests will be at The Pool at Harrah's in Atlantic City on President’s Day Weekend. As one part of Swedish House Mafia, Ingrosso is the man behind the ultimate summer anthem “Calling” with Alesso. Ingrosso also produced the “How Soon Is Now” with Dirty South, David Guetta and Julia McKnight, and the remix of “Jack You” with Steve Angello for Diddy and Felix. His remixes of MGMT’s “Kids” and Miike Snow’s “Silvia” also took the music scene by storm. The legendary artist has also worked with Kylie Minogue, Style of Eye, AN21, Max Vangeli, True Identity and Lune.

Guns N' Roses Announces 6 Show Mini Tour

"Welcome to the jungle, we've got fun and games!" Remember headbanging to that in your neighbor's living room when you were 7 years old? Well, maybe not, but either way, Guns N' Roses has announced a 6 stop mini tour that is set to rock NYC, Chicago, Silver Spring, and Atlantic City. This mini lineup is redemption for ignoring us last year during their massive 2011 tour that stopped everywhere but the east coast. NYC will get the greatest treat, taking 3 of the 6 shows at Webster Hall, Roseland Ballroom, and Terminal 5.

According to Rolling Stone, the band will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio just before kicking off the tour. Drummer, Steven Adler also told the magazine, "I personally just want to finish what I started with those jack-offs. We started off something, let's end the career playing together, at least once. I'd love to do a whole tour of the world. I personally – and I know that Slash and Duff feel the same way – we owe it to the fans to do a tour around the world. We haven't performed for over 20 years and they've stuck by us and believe in us."

Axl Rose is still not confirmed to perform with the band. Axl is historically known as the stubborn, high maintenance one of the bunch. Often showing up intoxicated or just unwilling to perform throughout the band's career. Not that we fault him --he was just being the rock star that he is! Afterall, a rock star is only as good as his last outburst/fiasco.

Anyway, we hope Axl opts to participate in the tour. For the fans, Axl, for the fans!

Indie Band to Watch: Our Name is Fun

Nate Ruess, Jack Antonoff, and Andrew Dost are FUN. Well, at least that’s what they boldly state as the name of their American indie pop band, blowing up radio stations nationwide.

With Ruess (formerly of The Format) as lead vocals, Antonoff (of Steel Train) on guitars, trumpet, and Dost’s (of Anathallo) contribution of vocals, piano, drums, keyboard, guitars, and of course the flugelhorn and glockenspiel. But of course. The band formed in the winter of 2008. Their album Aim and Ignite was released in 2009 on the label Nettwerk Records and Some Nights on Fueled by Ramen will be released this February 21.

The band’s single of 2011 is “We are young,” featuring Janelle Monae and was featured on Glee’s December 6, 2011 episode of “Hold on to 16.” Check out their website at ournameisfun.com to preorder Some Nights or to watch their slow-motion music video full of chaos and debauchery; destruction, moshing, and the bursting open of stuffed animals. Interview with Bayside frontman Anthony Raneri

Anthony Raneri found himself in familiar territory last Saturday at the Music Hall of Williamsburg. The New York-born singer/songwriter is constantly on the road with Bayside, but his January has consisted of the 4th annual “Where’s the Band?” acoustic tour, alongside like minded-frontmen Ace Enders, Evan Weiss, Matt Pryor, and Chris Conley. Armed with his musical comrades and his debut solo release New Cathedrals, the beloved crooner is getting ready for an intimate evening of inspiring sing-alongs for his music old and new.

Popping in and out of their small backstage dressing rooms, Raneri and his tour brethren, all close to or in their thirties, enjoyed each others company with the exuberance of new college roomates. With a cigarette in hand and a big smile, Raneri sat down with me to talk about New Cathedrals, as well as what it’s like to be on a musical road trip with some of your best friends.

How’s it feel to be back in New York?

I don’t even feel like I’m in New York, ‘cause I’ve just been working. I haven’t seen my house or my girlfriend or anything like that (laughs). So i could be anywhere.

Let’s talk about New Cathedrals a bit. What inspired the title?

To me, it was kind of building a new home. Bayside has been a thing for my entire life, and with this being my first solo release ever, it has that feeling of something new.

I really like the old-school cover art. What gave you that idea?

I was up real late one night flipping through album art and saw a bunch of 50s and jazz covers, and just thought it would be awesome to have something similar for the EP.

What kind of timeline were the songs written across?

It’s actually across the span of seven years…Ayo Ace!

Sorry, we’re working on on our encore. We’ve been working on it so long today and we don’t know it at all. We just heard the song for the first time today, it should be good though (laughs).

Obviously New Cathedrals is a way to release music that wouldn’t make sense for Bayside. Any songs that are particularly far off the map?

All of them, really. Actually, “Lead, Follow, Fall” was written to be a Bayside song. While we were writing Killing Time, I wrote that. And when it came time to cut songs, that one ended up not making it. But other than that, they’re all songs that never were meant to be Bayside.

How’d you go about getting the guest performers on the record? (Steve Choi from RX Bandits, Davey Warsop from Beat Union, and Jarrod Alexander from My Chemical Romance)

They’re just a couple friends of mine. I produced the record, released it myself, and just wanted to have them perform on it. They’re friends first, but also musicians that i think are just out of this world. I wanted to just get in a room to see what would come out. I’ve been playing music with the same people for 12 years, so it was nice to do something different.

What’s your favorite song on New Cathedrals to sing?

“Sandra Partial.” I really love it, just the way it flows.

You put the EP out under the name Gumshoe Records. Any plans to put out other releases under the label?

I never thought about it at all. The whole gumshoe thing came about because I had to set up a corporate bank account to take in the money from iTunes, and I needed a name. Gumshoe Radio is the show I do, so I decided to make it Gumshoe Enterprises, and everything from now one will be “Gumshoe something or other.” That’s the only reason there’s a name at all on it. That label side is not something that intrigues me at all. I don’t think I can get excited about being a record label for someone else.

Moving on to this tour, what songs do you hear requests for the most?

For the most part, I play the ones people wanna hear. Anything that’s been done acoustic. “Don’t Call Me Peanut,” “On Love, On Life.” People call out “Devotion and Desire” and I just wont play it because it doesn’t sound good acoustic (laughs). People call out for “Montauk” all the time, but it wouldn’t sound cool acoustic or with one guitar.

How long as the Where’s the Band? tour been going on?

Four years. I’ve been on all of ‘em.

What keeps you coming back?

It’s so much fun. We do it the end of every year, and it’s something we look forward to all year long. Its a just a big road trip, we’re buddies.

Yea, I definitely got a college-dorm type vibe from being back here.

Yea it’s awesome, like someones paying us to do this (laughs). We’re playing music all the time, just backstage jamming even when we’re not on stage.

Moving on to Bayside. It’s been a year since Killing Time hit stores, how do you feel people have responded to it?

I’m really happy about it. It’s hard when you’ve been a band as long as us to get people to do stuff. A lot of people turn off to their favorite bands when they put out newer albums, but people seem to be really enjoying Killing Time.

What’s the rest of 2012 look like for you and Bayside?

Bayside and me solo are gonna be on Warped Tour all summer. Two sets a day. And then were doing Bamboozle. Then in the fall, we’re gonna start writing another Bayside album.

Another busy year.

Always man. Every year is a busy year.

Grimes: The Black Swan

The name Grimes is a secret. She simply won't say. And although work ethic comes from a background in ballet, with obvious familiarity to spandex and that powers of femininity that be, sex appeal won't be hiking this one to the top; it's an aspect of the art she thinks too dark. She's described as anything from the Montreal artist from the DIY post-Internet scene, to the methodically slow-burned indie "it" girl who's become “the marriage between the voice of a human and the heartbeat of a machine” (Bullett Magazine). Grimes is Claire Boucher. And yes, a Canadian pop-singer with twinkly-light and layered vocals; with moody, chaotic, if misunderstood lyrics, and a level free time one can only imagine as nill, as she's cranked out four consecutive albums (-esque) since 2010. Two of such, Gedi Primes and Halifaxa (2010), were Internet-dispensed gratis efforts, though regarded highly, while she churned out singles on side A of Darkbloom in May 2011, along side hip hop experimentalist D'eon, the latter).

In truth, if Grimes is a new word to you, you're late. Boucher has already been sharing the stage with some recognizable names. Arena rockers, Arcade Fire, for instance or to a show of 30,000+ opening for indie godmother, Lykke Li. Impending name-dropping includes Built to Spill, Surfer Blood and Born Gold. Splashless, steady, and surely, Grimes is building something of a resume.

Laced with just a wink of princess to make psychedelia cute, Grimes is layered, mysterious, and yes "post Internet". A ground-up member of the nascent Montreal days, Grimes penetrated the wireless world for fun-- or monetarily speaking, free. But three heavenly heralded projects later, we've come to expect the fourth-forthcoming charm, Visions, to be another "sonic manifestation of the brain". (Fr. Jones, Colombia City Paper)

The compilation, which is said to have creative forces in Alphex Twin, Enya, and TLC, will launch January 31 in Canada on Arbutus. Faithfuls of her Twitter feed, however, will have learned that 4AD, a label whom she credits the realization that "girls can music, and goth is sick," will unleash Visions February 21 and March 12 to North America and continents beyond, respectively.

Grimes will be joined by summertime Brooklyn CMJ darlings, Born Gold, on both March 24th at the Mercury Lounge, and March 24 at Glasslands. ... A graceful departure from reality. Tickets available here.

[PICS] A Shipload of Fun: Holy Ship! Rages On

While we boring adults toil away at our office desks in 30 degree weather, a shit ship-load of people are having the time of their lives, bikini-clad in the tropics. Holy Ship! set sail last Friday and pictorial evidence has surfaced of what we suspected was going to be the the craziest cruise of all time. Indeed, it is. With Skrillex, Steve Aoki, A-Trak, Diplo, Jonathan Davis, and Tommy Lee amongst others, we had no doubt this was going to be quite the party. Now there's photographic evidence of what we're missing. Laugh now, cry later? Actually, cry now, cry later.

Which reminds us --we need a vacation....or at least a "field reporting" assignment.
