Can you think of anything better than coffee, pastries, and shopping? How about all three in one badass place surrounded by the kings—and queens—of rock and roll? Well, you can find this phenomenal trifecta at Grit N Glory, Lower East Side’s newest gathering spot. The product of owners Emily Conley and Veronica Cano’s own trilogy of passions—music, art, and coffee—Grit N Glory is an ever-evolving space offering a new brand of coffee culture.

After a soft opening in November, the duo hosted their grand opening event this week, and we have to say, it’s our new favorite place for a cup of joe and good time. You’ll know you’ve arrived when you see the drum set and guitars in the window, as if the band just took five for some shots of espresso. Come on in, and like us, you’ll be stopped in your tracks with the sights. At first glance you may notice the floor to ceiling “chalkboard” wall. Yes, a community art board! Feel free to pick up some chalk and have at it. Next, four shiny vintage hub cab clocks, set to various significant time zones, might catch your attention--or the realization that your personal favorite classic rock album happens to be playing. As you relax in the warm, cappuccino colored atmosphere, observe the art on the walls and other functional fixtures. Almost everything is for sale allowing a “vivid evolution of decoration” to gradually take place. There will always be something new to look at, one of Grit N Glory’s most unique characteristics.

Venture further, past the elevated tables, comfy couches, and first come first serve velvet-roped VIP lounge, and you will stumble upon the coffee counter. Order your choice of Stumptown brew beverages, Art of Tea selections, or a nostalgic Jones Soda. Pair it with the day’s irresistible offerings from SCRATCHbread like the Shortbread “Shortie” or Buttercream Brownie.

Now that your hunger and thirst are at bay, it’s time to shop. A truly inspired aspect of Grit N Glory is the fact that they’ve taken advantage of the space in a most creative way. Tables display folded printed tees; hanging apparel adorns wall fixtures and open wardrobes; candles, soaps, and fragrances are arranged in antique armoires. The eye-catching details are endless—as are the opportunities to discover a piece you can’t leave without. Grit N Glory offers contemporary merchandise for men and women as well as home goods that will appeal to many tastes. Throughout your unique shopping experience you will find brands that represent the local and national emerging artist and designer community. Reason Clothing, Death/Traitors, and Evolving Habitat are local New York designers found amongst others like Rails, LNA, One Teaspoon, Cast of Vices and Bandit Brand.

If you aren’t already completely convinced, you must check out this place for yourself. Take time to unplug with Emily and Veronica in the inviting atmosphere they’ve created by replacing wifi with board games, smart phones with stimulating art, and pretense with welcome. A perfect spot for the seemingly endless chilly afternoons ahead—gather some friends and enjoy the warm ambience of Grit N Glory!
