For a perfect bird’s eye view of the busy Meatpacking district at night, there is only one thing to do-- take the Plunge. Plunge, the posh lounge set atop the luxury Gansevoort Hotel features stunning panoramic views of the Hudson River and Manhattan's West Side.
Slip the doorman a few twenties (entry is guaranteed for hotel guests) and take the elevator up to the penthouse where the party is popping. The place is always packed at sunset when cocktail-sippers take over a large wrap around porch that stands 15 stories above the street. Large wooden benches reminiscent of a Hampton's summers await table buyers. If the weather is inclement, enjoy the view from the large inside bar area covered by a glass enclosure.
The crowd is often a mix of out-of-towners and contemporary Manhattanites, looking for an uncomplicated night out. The one truly fabulous feature on this rooftop is reserved for hotel guests only: a 45- foot heated outdoor pool complete with underwater music and color changing lights.
