As reported, Maritime Hotel’s Hiro Ballroom and Matsuri Shutter restaurant are closing its doors, making way for Marc Packer and Rich Wolfe of the Tao Group to take over. According to Eater, Mr. Packer is looking to open a Tao Downtown restaurant in the Chelsea location, although finer details are scarce for now, don't look for any openings until early 2013.

What makes this more than just another closure is that Maritime Hotel owners, Eric Goode and Sean Macpherson have decided to auction off everything from the two venues in the first week of April. This could be fun! Are you a budding restaurateur looking to add some veritable NYC charm?  Is your apartment lacking some amount of Asian décor to go along with your stolen One Way street sign? Now’s that opportunity because literally everything must go!

Starting April 1st will begin a three day preview interested parties can pick out which specific handmade paper lantern or bathroom sign you’d like bid for. April 4th begins the auction itself at 2 PM and will end by the following day before the new construction can break ground.
