Part of keeping up with nightlife, is keeping up with real estate. Watching the evolution of who's opening what, where, and who else is getting involved helps create the buzz and excitement behind most hot spots. Next summer, construction will break ground at Brooklyn Bridge Park for a 550,000-square-foot complex.

Mayor Bloomburg selected Capital Group and luxury developers, Toll Brothers to develop the space into a 200-room luxury hotel and 159 residential units. The hotel is where you interest should perk.

1 Hotel, as it’s currently being called, will potentially include 16,000 sq. ft. of restaurant space, 16,000 sq. ft. of banquet and meeting space, 2,000 sq. ft. of retail, and room for a fitness spa center.

Between now and the projected completion date of 2015, it’ll be exciting to see who fills up those spaces. Eyes have been turning to Brooklyn since the Wythe Hotel recently opened, and now the waterfront land grab grows from the Williamsburg Bridge to the Brooklyn Bridge.

If all this new construction worries you, know that Rogers Marvel Architects, the green-oriented designers of McCarren Park pool are behind the hotel’s design. So it's sure to have plenty of eco-friendly features.
