The concept of Tabu was created out of a need to have a true sports
bar that caters to the the diverse and dynamic crowd that makes up the
 Gayborhood as part of Washington Square West. Tabu Lounge and Sports 
Bar was envisioned to be not just another business on 12th Street, but 
a part of the community that gives back to the community in ways that 
others only think about. In December 2012 (after just two and a half years of being open), we held our 200th 
fundraiser in support of local non-profit organizations. We also provide significant 
support and assistance to several of the largest non-profit
 organizations in the community. Within our first few weeks of opening, Tabu has come to be known as
 one of the best venues for performance art. We host weekly drag 
shows, Liberty City Kings, comedy shows, variety shows, talent shows, 
and musical acts. Over the last few years, Tabu Lounge and Sports Bar
 and its sports teams, performers, and staff have received more 
awards / trophies / acknowledgements than any other bar in the community
 including, but not limited to, "Best Gay Bar with a Philanthropic
Twist", Best Bar for Beer, Best Sports Bar, best male bartender, best 
female bartender, Champion of the C Competitive Division of the City
 of Brotherly Love Softball League Division "C" 2012 and 2013 and Third
place at the Gay Softball World Series 2012. Throughout all these achievements Tabu has committed itself to being a 
place for everyone. A place where everyone is welcome, where everyone 
feels comfortable, where everyone wants to bring their mom or dad. We 
continue to work toward improving Tabu for you.
