Scene
Situated on the corner of 5th and Spring Garden Streets, Silk City contains both a classic diner and nightclub. Recently reopened under new owner Mark Bee, owner of nearby restaurant N.3rd, at Silk City Diner "everything old really is new again." An eclectic, vibrant attends regularly for the variety of events that Silk City hosts that includes the likes of live bands and DJs in a truly unique setting. The energy swells into the night, when the lower-level nightclub rolls to the beats of legendary MCs like King Britt with Back 2 Basics. Thursday is the hottest party in Philly, Mo Money No Problems with DJs Sammy Slice & Cool Hand Luke with host Tu Phace. Fun Frosty Fridays features DJ Frosty with reggae, world & hip hop dance music. Saturday night is "Anything U can shake UR hips2" w/ City Choice Award Best DJ winnner DJ DEEJAY. The merriment will increase exponentially if Bee opens his planned backyard beer garden here next spring.
Eats & Drinks
Grab a counter seat at the diner and choose from a copious selection of bottled beer or a cocktail like the Pink Panther strawberry martini or try some the scrumptious entrees on the menu. The menu is old time comfort food favorites. Silk City's best dishes are the starters, like the quesadillas stuffed with tender pulled BBQ pork and crunchy pickles(!), empanadas stuffed with chipotle-braised chicken, heartily spiced chili, and excellent calamari and rock shrimp fried in a cornmeal crust. The Thai-styled baby back ribs were also great, slicked with a sweet chile sauce and peanuts. While eating here at Silk city, it’s best just to keep your head down and focus on the food in front of you because if you start glancing at your neighbor’s plate, you may wind up wondering if you should have ordered something else….every item on the menu is just that good.
Ambience
The 1950's stainless steel dining car radiates a warm red glow. The emphasis on cocktail culture is evident at the diner; a well-stocked bar back existed where toasters and trays of silverware would normally exist in more traditional diners. Next to the diere there's an adjoining club where disco ball chandeliers illuminate black velvet paintings. This is the best place to grab a bite to eat, sip on a cocktail and then hop on the dance floor and dacne the night away.

Awesome Outdoor Dining. Order a fresh limeade margarita, kick back, and marvel that you’re on a tropical island on an otherwise grim stretch of Spring Garden.

There are those among us who would sooner die than drink inside Silk City, but we love sitting out in the beer garden. It’s always a friendly mix of people, and good for large groups.

This typical looking diner serves up anything but standard brunch fare on the inside. Order the smothered chicken and waffles and a Pimms Cup: Pimms, fresh lime, ginger beer, cucumber and mint.

Wear your flats, your high tops, or your stilettos. Silk City accepts all types of dancing shoes. Their open dress code attracts a diverse crowd, from indie girls to young professionals, and they're definitely not there to sit around (there’s an adjacent diner for that). With a spacious dance floor and just a few tables along the wall, this is one place where you won't have to worry about arriving too early. The crowd gets in around 11:30 and shakes it to a mix of 80s, 90s, and Top 40 until the early hours. Getting there early also gives you the chance to try out free drink specials before the open bar shuts down and the place gets packed.
