Feuds between artists are as old as music itself. Platinum metal had its infamous Metallica versus Megadeth contention, 90’s hip-hop had its 2pac versus Biggie gang shootouts. And now that electronic music has come forth as a major player in the american music scene, it’s no surprise that DJs are taking to the conflict game.
We all remember Ultra Music Festival weekend when Deadmau5 called out pop-star turned electro-producer Madonna on Twitter for her slurred “Has anyone seen my friend Molly?” comment. Well, Deadmau5 is once again tweet-fighting, this time with reality TV star-turned DJ Pauly D.
Now this guy deserves to win!
This season's American Idol winner, Phillip Phillips, won America's votes and hearts while battling painful kidney stones throughout his run on the hit talent show. Phillip's father told PEOPLE he had EIGHT separate surgeries since the singing competition began.
Here are some of the things his immensely proud and supportive parents had to say:
"He's been doing [well], but it's just grueling hours and it's just amazing what he's done through the journey,"
This album has been a long time coming. Leading Republic of Wolves for the past couple of years, Gregg DellaRocca still managed, somehow, to record his full length debut album Tall Tales Vol. 1, under the moniker American Gospel. Sure it took more than three years, but now it's ours, a musical text out in the wild.
American Gospel seems like a pretty ambitious names, I mean, it's the genre of music that influenced so much, from blues to jazz and everything in between. It's also a uniquely American sound, both insular in its beginnings and far reaching in its progeny. Of course, DellaRocca's album doesn't have much to do with gospel music, unless you grew up on early to mid 2000's indie rock and take that as gospel.
There's a new contender in the quality rum scene - Caliche Rum. This new liquor is a product collaboration between Roberto Serralles of Destileria Serralles and Rande Gerber. Destileria Serrales is a renowned sixth-generation family owned rum business that has been producing the world's leading rums for over 145 years, including DonQ. Rande Gerber is not new to the scene either, as he is a prominent hospitality and nightlife impresario (not to mention the spouse of supermodel Cindy Crawford).
Ace Young (season 5) and Diana DeGarmo (season 6 runner up) are officially engaged. The singer popped the question to DeGarmo on the season finale of American Idol last night. The cute couple met when they were both starring on Broadway's revival of Hair and became inseparable. They also have collaborated on music together with DeGarmo signed on to Young's indie label Young Brothers Entertainment.
"We have conquered Broadway together, we have created new music together, we have an amazing group of people around us," Young professed right before popping the question.
Kanye West and Kim Kardashian stepped out at the the Wednesday premiere of Cruel Summer, West's art installation/art film in Paris. The couple were reported to be inseparable and stealing kisses every chance they had. The film is one of the first projects of the rappers' Donda creative firm and as we all know Kanye does not shy away from creative projects, he also has clothing designer on his resume.
Kim wore a Balmain dress with a very sexy short hem paired with booties and Kanye kept it simple in a blazer and jeans. The couple were also accompanied by the rappers best friend Jay-Z sans Beyonce.
Bass-dropping producer and DJ extraordinaire Afrojack made an exciting announcement last night: 15 tour dates have been added to his summer “Jacked” tour!
Afrojack is taking his talents to the electronic music hubs of America, making stops in Miami, New York, Chicago, Las Vegas and Los Angeles amongst others.
We're a bit surprised by Afrojack’s choice of adding another New York date, after closing Electric Daisy Carnival last weekend AND playing the afterparty at Pacha. But I suppose the Grammy-winning producer was just craving more of Pacha’s bottle-popping madness, which would explain why he will return to his stomping grounds for another dance-floor rattling performance June 28.
Punk veterans, The Used, took their Vulnerable tour to Irving Plaza on Monday night, becoming the new definition of the word "energy."
Lead singer Bert McCracken was the poster child for Adderall; running around stage, spontaneously jumping up and down, waving his arms and still managing to sound on point. Even if someone wasn't in one of the several mosh pits that broke out, they were undoubtedly exhausted from just simply watching him. The energy in the room could have beat out an entire day at Warped Tour. The Used perfectly played their way through an almost two hour set jammed with older tracks and newer ones; proving they know how to keep those original fans happy. The band didn't skip a beat with any of the tracks, playing at least four songs from each album and ending with "Box Full of Sharp Objects." It should also be said that bands need a lot of fan staying power to be around as long as The Used have and it's clear they're aware of that. Fan appreciation matched the live energy, with Bert pausing the set to bring one lucky fan up for "Blue and Yellow." Unfortunately, security had other plans. It's safe to say that fan was probably okay with just the kiss on the lips Bert gave him. The Used have been at this for over 10 years, and it's safe to say they've got enough in them to go for at least 20 more. Photos courtesy of Dani Renee, Buzznet

Last night was action packed, to say the least. One of our stops amongst the evening's festivities was at the annual Harboring Hearts Spring Gala held at the Rubin Museum of Art in Chelsea. On any given night you can find a multitude of charity happenings throughout NYC. Harboring Hearts managed to win our hearts for the evening not only for a worthy cause but for the salted caramel brownies and gelato stand alone. We know, we know, it's about the cause, not the food, but as closet foodies, we're always kinda obsessed with culinary delights. And they certainly helped enhance an already lovely evening.
It’s been a pretty bad news week for hipsters and scene kids. First the news dropped that hairstyles that cover one eye might probably make that eye lazy over time. Now a slightly predictable knowledge bomb has finally dropped, and it affects, well, just about every fashion sub-culture. The big newsflash? Skinny jeans may not be great for circulation and may cause painful leg problems.
