Fashion, Art and Bacon.
These are a few of Mew Gallery's (and my) favorite things.

Carolynne McNeel and Lauren Parker, former fashion design students at Drexel University, opened Mew Gallery in October 2006 with the bold intent of creating a community-fueled boutique. Nestled like a hidden gem amid the sidewalk groceries of the Italian Market, Mew swaps Christian Louboutin and YSL for collections from local designers like Stephanie Kao and Nicole Rae Styer. Highlights include Kao's feather-embellished headbands and Styer's decorative slips that can be worn as lingerie or a dress with tights.

Shopping at Mew is a win-win situation.  You're sure to find something you can look good wearing and feel good buying. Pick up a printed tee by designer/stylist/recycle enthusiast Reese Juel and 10% of the proceeds aid in the reduction of post-consumer waste in landfills, as well as help out those in need of clothing and shelter.

The coolest aspect of Mew isn't that its super chic or eco-friendly, but that it doubles as an art gallery.  Its current exhibition, The Bacon Show, features bacon-inspired artwork from an array of artists. It's curated by Philly artist Mike Geno and runs from October 31 through December 17.

If you happen to be strolling down Christian St., check out Mew's monthly window displays.  This month, photographer Kevin Loreaux decks out the boutique's storefront.
