BONNAROO
Winter is upon us. Which means long gone now are the days of summer festival staples: crocheted halter tops, moon-worshipping prarie twirls and charmingly muddy bottomed bare feet. Just because the white months are lesser known for festival lineups however, does not mean the festivals cease to exist. Though slightly different in rhythm and style than their Bonnaroo & SXSW-esque forerunners, the musical celebrations below are still worth the blasphemous festival crimes of veiled flesh and stifled toes.
You didn’t think electronic music was going anywhere, did you?
Sounds of dub step and electro beats can be heard playing in the background of everywhere from shopping malls to restaurants these days; and that’s not even including your weekly house music hot spot. Festivals such as Coachella, Bonaroo, Electric Zoo, and Ultra have been getting rave reviews from electronic music enthusiasts, gathering tens of thousands of people every year. Although an amazing experience, these festivals tend to last for days, draining both mind and wallet. Taking that into consideration, the people over at Skullcandy are treating EDM fans to a one day festival to keep the music flowing beyond their stylish headphone gear.
Been really looking forward to seeing a festival line up all year? The last one was amazing, its competitors were amazing, now you just really need to see the line-up. You hear the hype, you hear it until you can’t take it any longer, “Who’s it gunna be, who’s it gunna be” and then… oh the disappointment! It’s the same headliners you ALWAYS see and like bad smells, there is just no getting rid of them. Now, it’s nice to catch one of the good ol’ rock legends that have been going ever since you were residing in your mother’s womb, but let’s face it -when all they play are festivals, release no new music, play no private gigs and generally hog a slot that could showcase another worthy legend, contemporary or not, that’s where the problem lies.
Already feeling that summer buzz-kill from missing out on Coachella and Sasquatch this year? Don’t worry, there are still plenty of festivals fixing to satisfy that music-hungry appetite at a much lower price than Bonnaroo or Lollapalooza. Check out these upcoming music festivals that will tune your ears in to some audio bliss.

If you're planning on attending a festival this summer then it's really smart that you're reading this. Hoards of music lovers flock to the noisy hot spots each year, ill prepared and poorly advised. Having spent copious amounts of money that line the pockets of the festival organizers, it is only fair that YOU make sure YOU have a jolly good time. So let us take the stress off your shoulders by thinking about sensible things so that you can go forth and concentrate on having fun.
We have helpfully comprised a list of important necessities to remember in order to make sure you get the best out of your festival experience this summer:
The Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival has major musicians this year: Eminem, Arcade Fire, Lil Wayne, Mumford & Sons, The Strokes, The Decemberists, Explosions in the Sky Florence and the Machine and more.
Vevo, a joint venture between Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment and Abu Dhabi Media Co, will stream the festival live from Manchester, TN. They will be available after the festival as well.
You can get more information from Bonnaroo's homepage as well as Vevo's Bonnaroo page.
On Friday we had the chance to catch up with LA-based funksters Orgone at their second NYC gig this fall at Sullivan Hall. We got the opportunity to see Orgone at moe.down the weekend prior and were thoroughly impressed with all three of their sets at the festival. You can imagine our excitement when we went home after the festival to download some of their music just to see that they would be playing two shows in NYC over the next few days, the first at Brooklyn Bowl and then a headlining set at Sullivan Hall.
Even though Conan was jumped, beaten up, and left for dead by NBC, he's still managing to make headlines. O'Brien announced on his twitter that he'll be, "heading to your town on a half-assed comedy & music tour. I repeat: It's half-assed." The ‘Legally Prohibited From Being Funny On Television Tour' was announced shortly after the twitter craze that Conan sparked by following a random person (Sarah Killen), who went from 3 followers (pre-Conan) to 27,900 followers and was given a bunch of free stuff.
One of the last stops on tour will be at this year's Bonnaroo festival in Manchester, Tennessee. Conan has never turned down the opportunity to rock out on his previous talk shows, so it seems like a perfect fit.
The tour will start April 12th in Eugene, Oregon, for tickets and details visit Team Coco.
James Murphy's electro gang LCD Soundsystem is finally going to give the fans what they want, a new record. Set for a May 18th release for the as-of-yet-untitled third album, Murphy stated on the bands blog, "Looks like we added another Paris gig. Oh, and something else. The fucking record is done." Murphy sent it off to be mastered by Bob Weston and by the looks of his comments; it seems to be a relief. Murphy spoke to Rolling Stone about the struggles of recording and coming up with song titles, "You ever listen to a song 40 times?" he asks. "That's why I don't write the lyrics until as close to the day I sing it as I can, so I don't get sick of them." And when it comes to the titles Murphy thinks it should be, "the most repeated, obvious phrase... because that's what people are going to say anyway!"
