Best Dressed: MTV Movie Awards 2011

During last night’s MTV Movie Awards, we saw all of our favorite celebrities decked out in their best Award-worthy outfits. We saw everything from ball gowns to mini dresses to even rompers, and we loved them all (for the most part!). Some of the major trends highlighted were lace, animal print, and metallic designs. Here are our top 15 favorite looks from this year’s event...

1. Selena Gomez’s Giambattista Valli-designed look topped our list. The Disney starlet opted for light, summery-toned separates and a clutch designed by Cecilia. She told MTV's red carpet reporter and Project Runway alum Christian Siriano that as soon as she saw the trendy, but age-appropriate look, she was sure it the one!

Fall Forecast: Looser Silhouettes With a Chance of Color

After clicking through pictures of New York Fashion Week’s new collections, Miami fashionistas might find themselves discouraged by the upcoming Fall trends. We love Oscar de la Renta, but who are we kidding? Fur gilets have no place in the 305. Don’t let that get you down, though. There are a ton of other trends perfect for our November weather. Miami isn’t as seasonless as you think.

Alongside the fur and heavy velvet were sheer dresses, cheerful colors, and too-loose silhouettes suitable for South Florida. Floaty tops and pants with extra leg room are just some of the wearable trends. Breezy skirts with Spring’s longer hemline appeared at Tracy Reese and Christian Siriano. These skirts are perfect for windy days when you don’t feel like battling the wind to keep your skirt down.

Christian Siriano Gives More To Payless

According to this press release, Christian Siriano has signed on for more shoes! Coming Fall 2011, the Siriano and Payless collaboration will expand its collection to as many as 20 shoes and handbag styles each season. Siriano's designs translate expensive taste, but are sold at Payless for an affordable price. Shoes can make or break an outfit; what better way to dress up for the night than in a pair of Christian Siriano's shoes.

"I'll draw inspiration from lots more everyday elements -- street fashion, architecture, traveling and landscapes -- to create amazing looks including a range of boots, casuals, flats, sandals and handbags in addition to dress styles." -Christian Siriano

The Christian Siriano Way of Things For Spring 2011

In a past lifetime, Christian Siriano could have been a shoe designer. Throughout his Spring 2011 collection, it was painfully hard to balance the attention between Siriano's Eastern Culture influence and the collections footwear -named Shanghai, Mumbai, Nairobi and Zanzi - a phenomenal contribution to his affordable capsule with Payless. Unlike his fame founding rival, Daniel Vosovic, the designer kept literally honest to the Siriano way of things.

He played it safe with skin-embracing frocks adorned in repetitive prints. Prints, most of us appreciate and depend on of Siriano. The designer introduced the spirit of a traveling woman, with belted hip-touching bodices, shiny bermuda shorts and a metallic front-draped pencil skirt for an evening night out. Siriano's draping was taken out of context, when he begin to playfully drap transparent like fabrics from various places on the woman's body.

Lunch With Lartigue

Curiousity killed the cat through an adventure Midtown to visit a Saks Fifth Avenue and Whitney Museum's Young Designer Celebration; hosted by Chanel Iman, Amanda Hearst, Devon Aoki, Magherita Missoni, Valerie Boster, Martin Dawson and Daria Oberlander. What started off as a slow evening turned to be the best time to observe the exclusive dresses designed by Prabal Gurung, Christian Cota, Erdem Moralioglu, Doo.Ri Chung, Roberto Rimondi, Marios Schwab and Tommaso Aquilano - some of whom were in attendance. Doo.Ri, who designed a stellar blue flared hem frock with a stunning white & black polka dot bow strap, won the honors of dressing host Chanel Iman. As the arriving crowd danced to violins played over trendy deejay sets, plenty gasped at the craftsmanship and beauty of Christian Cota’s phenomenal cage dress, Erdem’s floral sensation and Prabal’s black and white contrast achievement by way of a cocktail dress. 17 dresses were designed in total by the designers, with many of their pricetags climbing into the four figure range; Cota’s cage masterpiece was priced at $3,950, while Erdem’s floral pieces began at $700. Guilt over the hefty cost was not an issue, however, as 10 percent of purchases will benefit the Whitney Museum of American Art.

Also in attendance was Fern Mallis, who recently stepped down as global ambassador of IMG and the face of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. Mallis will begin her own firm Fern Mallis LLC, with IMG Fashion as her first client.

Earlier in the afternoon Passion Style PR invited editors and stylists to preview the Fall 2010 collections of a plethora of designers; including Philippe Audibert, Hernan Lander, Marie Saint Pierre, Max et Moi and Mirjana Scepanovic. Attendees enjoyed Philippe’s ethnic beauty of jewelry, Max et Moi’s subtle glamour and Hernan’s edgy aesthetic attempts. Passion Style welcomes all patrons of fashion, press and media to their annual party June 10th; guaranteed to be a memorable event.

Heidi Slimane has created a memorial on his site for the late model Ambrose Olsen, who hung himself last week; Christian Siriano is rumored to be dressing Melania Trump for Monday’s Met Ball; Karl Lagerfeld is expected to attend New Yorks Fashion Week for an award ceremony and Fashion’s Night Out; Charitybuzz.com’s week at Vogue auction closed at $42,500; Michael Kors follows Calvin Klein’s Francisco Costa, saying young models are a turnoff. “I think if you send out an army of robotic 14-year-old children dressed up in their mom's clothes, I think the reality is that it's a turnoff, unless you are in fact a robotic 14-year-old.”; Naomi Campbell will visit The Oprah Show Monday, where it’s rumored she will sign a “No Throwing Cell Phone” pledge; Oscar De La Renta talks about the slack in couture saying, "Couture has become completely irrelevant, Couture isn’t necessary, even to promote the brand. Customers are smart. They know that a $10,000 wedding dress will look as beautiful as a $1 million wedding dress. Maybe it will not be finished the same way inside, but who will know?"

Bravo Lets Christian Siriano Have His Moment..

Last night Bravo TV premiered Christian Siriano's reality television show, Christian Siriano: Having A Moment.

As if I don't watch enough television, I needed something to get my fix, which was left back in the past week somewhere from Bravo's Kell On Earth.

Siriano was a favorite of mine throughout his Project Runway debut. I walked away from the emotional finale saying the word "FIERCE!" On his behalf, of course.

As every other reality television star (aka the entire crew of CW's Stylista), I let Siriano fade into the back of my mind only to recall his name when walking past a Payless Shoe Source; seeing his promo ads plastered throughout the windows.

The Quick Stop: March 22nd

Isabel Toledo To Payless: Isabel Toledo - obviously a favorite to the First Lady, Michelle Obama - may actually bring to life previosuly impossible desires by making Payless even more cool, and aesthetically wearable. And though, Christian Siriano attempted such a task - we'd rather not comment. Toledo has signed on to design handbags and shoes for the retail chain, expected to hit stores and online in September. Her camp hints flats, square heels and wellies made from patent leather, rubber, mesh and nylon are to be expected. But will that be enough? Possibly, since pricing is set to be under $40. Toledo says: “It’s really a collection for women from all walks of life, literally. And it’s been interesting as I’ve had to have a different design hat on." We wonder if Obama will trade in her Lanvin sneakers for this?

Christian Siriano: Ferocia Coutura Grows Up

There were a few new ideas at play in Christian Siriano's Fall 2010 collection, but most of what we observed were his reliable flouncy, asymmetrical ruffles, and incredibly tailored pantsuits. It was all very categorically Christian - fierce, dramatically draped organza and chiffon, a mostly black color scheme with vibrant flashes of fuchsia and blue, and styling that featured his highly anticipated footwear for Payless with hidden platform and gladiator heels. The collection featured a surprising amount of separates until it segued into stunning, cascading eveningwear. We've certainly seen most of this from him before, but with subtle updates here and there, it looks like Christian Siriano is starting to grow up.

The Synergy of Sidekicks Charles Hamilton and Josh Madden

Although we were sad to see Charles Hamilton leave the music scene, his return and release of his latest creation Normalcy more then made up for it. And now, alongside with Josh Madden spinning the records, the tag team will tear up the opening night at our Fashion Week Gala event at Capitale. Renowned DJ Josh Madden is the perfect complimentary sidekick to match the energy of Sonic The Hamilton. Not only is DJ Josh Madden touring the U.S., he is also a stylist and co-founder of the clothing label DCMA Collective. Talk about the interwining of music and fashion! We were able to get some answers as to what make these two tick.

Rihanna's Superbowl Looks

It's actually quite amusing to witness Rihanna donning Christian Siriano over Superbowl Weekend. Friday night, she hosted the Pepsi Refresh Project Kickoff Party at LIV Nightclub in Miami and welcomed NFL rookies wearing this strapless Christian Siriano dress and Jimmy Choo heels.

Christian Siriano and Superbowl weekend in the same sentence? Awkward. Typically, when we think of Rihanna's promotion of young designers, we easily expect her to dreadfully don her favorites - mainly Alexander Wang or Gareth Pugh - in some pretentious way.
