DAFT PUNK
Arriving at Pacha NYC on Black Friday, the energy was evident before even walking through the doors. The venue was filled with partygoers all ready to dance off their Thanksgiving dinners and leftovers, at the prestigious New York City spot. Awaiting up and coming house DJ duo AN21 & Max Vangeli to headline the Black Friday event.
AN21(born Antoine Joseffson), the brother of Swedish House Mafia member Steve Angello, has been working alongside Max Vangeli for the past year caught up with us before getting into the booth at Pacha to tell us a little bit more about themselves and their upcoming projects. Vangeli, named one of the "Top 5 DJs to watch in 2011" by the Top 100 DJ poll on DJMag.com, and AN21 have taken over clubs worldwide with remixes of Swedish House Mafia's Save the World as well as Pendulum's The Island. Both anticipating the gig, they gave the crowd one of the best sets in which I have seen them, if not the best. Feeling the vibes of the club rocking to the music, AN21 even attempted (and succeeded!) in crowd-surfing throughout Pacha's main floor! Definitely a night for the record books, as per usual, at Pacha NYC.
At the infamous 2008 VMAs, where Tommy Lee and Kid Rock fought over Pamela Anderson while Kanye West complained and moaned about not being offered the main stage, there were other good things to be noticed. That year, Justice was the featured “side-performance” artist and they did their best to impress.
Their effort wasn't in vain, as they put on excellent performances that featured other unknown and up-and-coming artists, like Daniel Merriweather and Robyn. Three years later, they are here with their second studio album, Audio, Video, Disco.
To be clear, this post is not meant to offend. It is meant to inform: those who don’t know about this phenomenon that’s literally taken over the recent music industry. Because while the sizable increase of popularity in house and progressive electronic music has converted many a new follower, there are still more wandering lost and confused in this mansion of a genre.
History Lesson :
House falls under the Umbrella Genre of Electronic Dance Music, or EDM. The creation of EDM can be associated with the nightclub scene since the 1980s. It is inherited from the electropop and even disco days of the 1970s.

Unless you have completely isolated yourself in your room creating your one-of-the-kind Halloween costume for the last 2 months, you have surely heard that Daft Punk is doing the soundtrack for the new Tron: Legacy movie. Watch the music video for the first released track, "Derezzed below.
Tron was a successful avant-gardist film, so Disney decided to make an other one called Tron Legacy. What a great opportunitiy for science-fiction addicts such as Daft Punk. This is not only a half-revolutionnary duo, but also visual artists. Remember they hired this famous anime team to create Interstella 5555 a few years ago. This long maga illustrated their second album.
You already know they only work behind robot masks. Those french guys are indeed quite nerdy. They do love computer stuff, and win grammys with it. It is so logical for them to work for the new Tron movie because they simply were young fans of the first one.
Adidas is back at it again, their commercials keep getting better and better. Now for the World Cup, they bust out a Star Wars themed commercial with a host of cameos from the impressive droids Daft Punk, Ciara, Oasis' Noel Gallagher, Ian Brown of Stone Roses and of course David Beckham.
The biggest surprise is when Snoop Dogg shows up and as always, starts trouble. Lightsabers get pulled out (no pun intended) and aliens start dying.
The famous cantina scene from Episode IV is definitely worth checking out. Plus, there is awesome background music in the cyber bar.
Have you ever wanted to wear a used pair of ballet slippers worn by Natalie Portman? I know I have! Well here's your chance, Crafts For A Cause is a charity where musicians and entertainers are making crafts to be auctioned off to benefit Haiti.
The amount of people taking part in this is pretty remarkable, Ed Droste from Grizzly Bear is auctioning his guitar that he learned to play on and was the primary guitar used for Horn of Plenty and Yellow House.
Wheezing their way through New York City's top venues, Alex Pall and Rhett Bixler have proven that vodka and cigarettes aren't as sinful as we thought. A slow night at Marquee in winter 2007 brought the dynamic duo together, and ever since they've been rocking parties, blackening lungs, and "bringing a rage room dance energy" to NYC's hottest venues. Now if only they could land that Phillip Morris sponsorship...
Going into a set, do you mix according to the crowd, or do you have pre-mixed sets that you play?
He may only be 22 years old, but Jesse Marco is already well-established as one of New York City's most talented and sought-after DJs. His signature style and flair for mixing cross-genre classics, like Led Zeppelin and Jay Z or Michael Jackson and Nirvana, has caught the attention of some of the industry's biggest names, including Tom Ford, Russel Simmons, and Kanye West. Since he started spinning on his first turntables at the age of 12, his passion, talent, and dedication has taken him to the top, with a little help from DJ legends Mark Ronson and DJ AM. Don't miss your chance to get in on the action with Jesse Marco at Joonbug's Fashion Week Gala. Oh, and did we mention that he's also a model? How appropriate.
