PETA
After posting an article regarding Lea Michele's fight against horse-drawn carriages in NYC today, I was promptly notified by the Horse Carriage Association in defense of the practice of horse-drawn carriages. Their stance was basically that Lea Michele is "uneducated" about the facts and that the stable conditions are clean and "healthy." What they didn't know is that I'm quite educated on the facts and have been an advocate against horse-drawn carriages for quite some time. Their feeble defense gave me a chuckle. As far as I'm concerned, the horses could live in mansions with gold plated horse shoes and a personal butler, and I would still despise horse-drawn carriages.
Good news for all of you philatelists, herbivores and compulsive card mailers out there. Just in time for the busy holiday mailing season, PETA has unveiled it's latest star-powered animal advocacy campaign. The limited edition stamp series featuring twenty of the world's most famous vegetarians is on sale through December and possibly January.
Photographer Jordan Michael Zuniga debuted his latest series Women in Cages at a VIP cocktail reception at Cafeina in Wynwood earlier this month. The series features nine nude portraits of Miami's most prominent female figures including Brooke Hogan, Tracy Mourning, Ines Rivero, Elaine Lancaster, Heather Davis, Ivette Naranjo, Katrina Campins, Michelle Pooch, Pachi Lake and Tara Solomon.
Eighty percent of the proceeds from sales of the photographs of the ladies crammed into tiny cages are donated directly to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). The series is part of PETA's "I'd Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur" campaign and raises awareness about cruelty to animals.
The exhibition is on display at Cafeina from August 12 through September 10, 2011.
Morrissey has already cemented a long and strong career. He's spent the past two decades crooning like a blood thirsty Sinatra while putting a friendly British face on the posters of PETA. From Your Arsenal to You Are the Quarry to Years of Refusal, his hair slowly silvers as his relevance refuses to fade. He also futzed around back in the eighties with a band you may have heard of, but he's more concerned that you forgive and forget his history and focus on his solo career.
Having just swam through a rain-drenched set at last weekends Glastonbury festival, Morrissey shot some words across the pond to the Pitchfork.com offices that alluded to his new album and his grumpy frustration with the modern music industry. Mozz says his follow-up to 2009's Year of Refusal is all written, but he's just looking for someone to pay him to put it in the can and release it. He played three songs earlier this month for the BBC as an offering to fans and bait to producers, but according to him labels are about as hungry for his new album as a vegetarian at a bacon buffet:
PETA's new campaign Fur-Free & Fabulous features Lady Gaga, Pink and Mariah Carey, and not because of their amazing voices, but because they have always been against the wear of fur. And the fact that Lady Gaga wore a meat dress at 2010 MTV Video Music Awards doesn't count...
Here's what PETA says of the three singers
"These musical powerhouses have good reason to shun fur—every fur coat, vest, hat, or fur-trimmed accessory causes animals an immeasurable amount of suffering and ends their life. Foxes, minks, rabbits—even dogs and cats—are bludgeoned, stomped, electrocuted, and gassed to death, and many are skinned while still alive. You can help put an end to this unimaginable cruelty by choosing never to buy or wear fur or fur-trim."
Kevin Nealon- He may play a hilarious slacker/ pot head on the hit television series Weeds, but one thing Kevin is serious about is animal rights. He's been a proud vegetarian for the past 20 years, even partaking in a hilarious "vegetarian testimonial" for PETA. So maybe what comes from the earth really is the greatest worth?
Meat eater? As if!
Alicia Silverstone-
This adorable actress certainly isn't clueless when it comes to animal rights.
She has been a vegan for the past ten years, and was 2004's "Sexiest Vegetarian
Alive". Alicia is the author of "The Kind Diet" a book which shows you how
adopting a plant based diet can have you drop pounds, clear your skin, and leave
you with a fabulous new amount of energy. And for that we salute you Alicia.
When Anja Rubik opens and closes a show, does anyone remember the clothing in between?
You would if you were an avid fan of stellar outerwear paired with lingerie-inspired apparel. But, that's just if you're an avid fan.
PETA definitely has their work cut out for them this season.
Secretly admitting that the Fall 2006 Louis Vuitton pouch that Amber Rose wore during the Paris menswear shows with boyfriend Kanye West is highly desirable, everyone has been waiting patiently for PETA to fire off their attack against the couple and their fur obsession.
But how far is too far, when it comes to PETA?
PETA released the following statement on their official blog regarding the two:
Evidently, Kanye West is on everyone's bad list when it comes to his music and tantrums.
But, we're certain Kanye and girlfriend/Ford model, Amber Rose, will soon be receiving a complaint from PETA's founder, Ingrid Newkirk, real soon - after making a fur-stopping appearance during the Paris menswear shows.
Although the photo at right isn't fur quality, it does demonstrate how eager for attention the duo are whilst in Paris.
After Ingrid's recent attack against singer Kelis, and Kelis' immature (yet very valid) response - I'd like to bid all the Louboutins in the world to see a dialogue between Ingrid and Kanye West.
Although Kanye claims to be a changed man, one loose stud on his Louboutin loafers may just set him off.
