Designer Collabs Worth Waiting (In Line) For

Alice Temperley + John Lewis

If you’re a fan of fashion from across the pond, (and who isn’t) you’ll be as excited as we are to hear this news. Somerset by Alice Temperley will be debuting this fall for British department store John Lewis. The chic London-based brand’s skyrocketing popularity, thanks to a pair of stylish Middletons and red carpet royalty, has us eager to get the looks for ourselves. Launching September 4th (plus additional partywear in October) the line is infused with signature Temperley style, including influences from feminine lace embellishment to tough military hardware. The 60-piece collection boasts reasonably priced apparel and accessories, like dresses from $160, mixed with luxe options like the $1,600 sheepskin coat. Sneak peeks report “sheer paneled two-tone dresses and beaded Indian evening gowns, studded nappa leather handbags and animal print scarves.” (MarieClaire) Luckily, John Lewis ships internationally—let the countdown to Temperley in our closets begins!

Alice Temperley Leads by Example

If you are in fashion and looking for an example to follow as to how to survive and thrive in the current economy, then you should look at Alice Temperley. First, create “that dress”. In the case of Temperley, that dress would be the bejeweled creation that came from the collaboration with Quintessentially Bespoke. It has only been a few weeks since it launched and it costs $3,000, but it has almost sold out - and the likes of Jessica Alba and Emily Blunt have worn variations of the design. Second, pick the right partners. In December, Temperley London opened a 2,500 square-foot shop in the New Dubai Mall thanks to a partnership with the real estate tycoon Mohammed Alabbar (you might recognize that name since he is the man who can be credited with transforming Dubai into what it is now). Lastly, stay on the fashion radar and be ultra-modern at the same time. Temperley’s choice to forgo the catwalk this season and opt instead for a multimedia installation not only saves money, but the innovative alternative creates buzz.

So why not follow Alice Temperley’s lead? It can’s hurt. [style]
