MTV named Nicky Romero an EDM artist to watch in 2012 and our eyes have been glued to the Dutch DJ ever since. So when he announced he’d be making his debut performance at Space Miami last Saturday, we jumped on the opportunity to check out the young star in action.
Brought into the electronic music world by mentor David Guetta, the 23-year-old Dutch superstar has already made an impressive name for himself as the next progressive-electro wonderboy. The rising star spent 2012 producing 14 hard-hitting and well-received singles, touring the nightlife metropolises of the world, and topping it off with a Miami New Year’s Eve weekend concert we’ll never forget.
Hurricane Sandy? More like "Hurri-can't Sandy." The only hurricane that is about to hit Miami this Saturday, Oct. 27th is the return of the country's leading adult-themed Halloween costume party, Back in Black. The party is still on and has been moved to Club Space! All tickets purchased for Bicentennial Park will be honored.
Right in heart of Downtown Miami is the iconic Club Space, where party revelers will experience a solid lineup of dance's music's top acts, including Dirty South, Paul Van Dyk, Funkagenda, The Crystal Method, LA Riots, Electrick Dread featuring Kevens, and many more!
Long considered one of the biggest names in techno, Joris Voorn continues to keep listeners hooked with his signature blend of dark and groovy house. The Dutch DJ and producer sat down with Joonbug before a show at Miami’s celebrated club Space to share his thoughts on the underground, NYC, and touring.
Even though house started in America, it evolved much faster in Europe than it did here in the States at the beginning of the movement. Who do you think is responsible for the EDM we’re listening to today?
A resident at the Terrace of Miami’s legendary club Space for seven years, Buenos Aires native Patrick M has made a name for himself in house music around the world. He sat down with Joonbug to talk about the global house scene, spinning in Miami, and his upcoming show in New York next week.
AM: You’ve performed with New York legends Danny Tenaglia and Eric Murillo, and you’ll be traveling there again next week. What’s the biggest difference between the house scene there versus the scene in Miami where you have a residency?
Don't you just love living in Miami where it's still warm enough in October to wear whatever you want? Whether your costume is creepy, creative or kinky, here is where to see and be scene this Halloween.
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 22nd

It’s been a good long while since anyone set out from Spain to conquer new territory.
506 years, to be exact.
(Pause for drumroll.)
Introducing Chus and Ceballos, perhaps the greatest duo to come out of Spain since Ferdinand and Isabella. Once upon a time (in 2001), Chus and Ceballos followed in Columbus’s footsteps, bringing their distinct sound to the New World (or, more appropriately, your 6-disc changer). Seamlessly blending House and Techno with an unmistakeable percussion beat, Chus and Ceballos pioneered a ship dubbed as “Iberican” across the wide ocean of house music to start a new colony of artists and producers dedicated to a tribal way of life. Hard work toiling the land earned them residencies at the top clubs in the world, including Stereo Montreal, Pacha NYC, Space Miami and many others. (Sans tomahawks.)
You can’t help it. You leave state and everyone gawks. No, no booger in your nose. Is it your high top Dunks? Your blow-out? Your puma-like walking pace?
Whatever it is about you, it’s decidedly New York. And you can’t escape it. That’s why at the Winter Music Conference you share dance space with the same people, attend the same parties, at the same places. (The following can be combined for all plausible possibilities: Danny Tenaglia, marathon, Space Terrace, Victor Calderone, Boris, Surfcomber, Shelbourne.)
But hold on. These names are at the very end of a long line of local NYC DJs-- Exacta and Merritt, Sleepy & Boo, Tedd Patterson, Cevin Fisher-- who’s local residencies have led to (inter)national success.
Below is a list of the top 5 upcoming New York City DJs. Support your local scene and go see them while they still play for free before midnight.
1. Michael Anthony
Prophetic even in name, Michael Anthony sees himself as “herding an eclectic mix of wolves of sheep.” Revolutionary and brash, he explains how he got into house music; “I thought it was fascinating how some DJs just made the crowd straight up blow them for hours on end. I kind of thought to myself, wow, I want a crowd to blow me too. Then, it all kind of meshed together.” (Sex, music and Michael Anthony).
You know the feeling. You’ve just left the club and the sun’s blaring down on you. You’re happy you forgot your watch and remembered your sunglasses. You’re not sure what you want to do first: eat or sleep, or attempt both at the same time. What happened last night? (Or, rather, this morning?) Vague memories shaped by strobe lights and smoke give an answer: you were a slave to the dark beat.
