EMPIRE HOTEL
MONDAY
EL-P + Despot
When: Monday, May 21st.
Where:Santos Party House
Come out and see Brooklyn’s own El-P who, although hasn’t released a rap album since 2007, has been hella busy with Das Racist and his own Definitive Jux Label. His new album, Cancer 4 Cure will come out this month, so come get a little taste.
The presentation of the Ankar Sweden autumn/winter 2012 collection was a great way to start the 6th day
of fashion week. The event took place at the Empire Hotel’s rooftop lounge, with a cozy environment, a breakfast buffet, and subtly upbeat music, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming.
Ankar and his co-host, Cator Sparks, were there to greet guests while all were observing the long, lean men standing on pedestals around the room. A calm and friendly presentation was exactly what the doctor ordered to start wrapping up fashion week. Guests lounged on couches while discussing the collection over breakfast and tea, while natural light filled the room framed with glass windows.
Maneuvering the heat in Manhattan isn't always easy. The sun is shinning from every glass window and the asphalt is usually breathing out a hot spell. There's little ventilation and always being on the run isn't precisely great for avoiding perspiration. We'll tan on our rooftops, sprawl out in Central Park, but what we really want is, please God, a pool. Below is a list of the best hotel pools in Manhattan and the best part is you don't need to be an overnight guest to take a splash.
Ok, let’s get real. Its Independence Day weekend and here at Joonbug we take this holiday very, very, seriously. Our forefathers didn’t fight an entire revolution solely so we could live in freedom. No. They did it so each year we could properly commemorate our sovereignty and celebrate our liberty. And that is exactly what we are doing this weekend! Below are our favorite events to celebrate this 4th of July.
Dance.Here.Now Festival
What is a 4th of July party without electro-beats? I’m sure our forefathers would be please with this, uh, “celebration.” Governor’s Island, in association with Cielo, Pacha and Glo Fridays, is hosting a four-day long party starting tomorrow July 1st until the 4th. The event kicks-off with a six-hour (six!) DJ-set by Paul VanDyk on Friday. Saturday will be all about Fat Boy Slim and James Zabiela. As the day gets closer, the acts get hotter. On Sunday Benni Bennassi and Laidback Luke will turn tables. On Monday, Brooklyn born DJ Victor Calderon will swap the (common? Unoriginal?) happy birthday song with some house and a lot of techno. Check out the full line up and find tickets here.

Hi Joonbuggers!
A quick welcome to my new weekly column (and that was it if you missed it) and now lets get down to business.
And business it was last week especially for all the stores that participated in Fashion's Night Out, but more of that in a minute, first I want to talk about the sharp end of fashion week, the shows. I kicked off this season by taking a strut down to West Broadway to check out the new collection from Prince Peter, that cheeky little character talent who seems always to hang with the hippest and best looking people on the planet. As usual his show was full of great looking things draped in his designs and the liquor was free-flowing and plentiful which was a result for me because I then got a chance to eat it off by going in to see my old mate Kevin, the Maitre D at Balthazar which was, needless to say, filled to the brim as usual .
You're at the end of the night. You've spent too much money at the bar and you're single in New York. If you want your Sex and The City dreams to come true, stick around these three clubs as the bar closes to meet your prince(ss) for a goodnight kiss.
Marquee
289 10th Ave
New York, NY 10001
Marquee is one West Chelsea club that couples high-class clientele with long term success. For five years, the impeccably dressed doorman, Wass, has maintained the ultra-lounge’s integrity, thus making it a fixture in the lives of Manhattan’s party elite. Rubbing elbows with models and celebrities is not an anomaly, but a guarantee. Bottle service is the norm and single men: be ready to cough up serious dough if you want to party like a rock star. The main dance floor on the bottom floor is so small that most club goers take to the couches to get their groove on. House and techno beats blare until 5 am. The intimate atmosphere of Marquee gets the blood flowing and is the perfect setting for a goodnight kiss.
Rise above the streets of Manhattan for a night of no cover charge, music playlists of Hip hop, Dance, Top 40, and 80's, and a hot crowd on the Empire Hotel's rooftop!
If you're not on the Joonbug's guest list or haven't reserved a table yet, then you should start panicking. You'll miss out on all of the fun if you don't sign up now!
