About 1 in 8 women in the United States will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. So odds are, you know someone who's been affected or afflicted. In addition to the lovely reds, oranges and yellows of the changing leaves leaves this season, you're also bound to be seeing a lot of pink since October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Your mom swears the Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon visually synchronizes with The Wizard of Oz. Your dad swears he wasn't stoned at the Rolling Stones, and hey, even your big sister's nose bled during Elton John and Ani DiFranco. (Because her seats were so far away. . .)
Don't worry, you haven't missed out. Even if the only club you've been to is for teens, this fall you will have the chance to see one of the world's biggest DJs dazzle a stadium packed with thousands of people dancing 150 bpm to enthralling melodies and sparkling neon-colored lights. (A feat way cooler than any playing even a 21+ club).
Just in time for Valentine's day, Jeffrey Chodorow's Bar Basque at the Eventi Hotel will bestow the glow of its bright red interior on the lovestruck faces of every party-goer. Still semi-new, the spacious place has been primarily recognized as a restaurant serving chef Yuhi Fujinaga's Thai dishes. New York Magazine put special attention on anything grilled, but now Bar Basque has something else to offer. The lounge's futuristic aura, designed by Tron's Syd Mead, is set by the glass ceiling and random images shown on a screen hanging over the courtyard at night. All of this may sound peculiar, but decent drink prices and a fresh atmosphere are sure to guarantee an interesting Alice-in-Wonderland-type weekly escape.
Come join us Monday, January 17th, in honor of Martin Luther King Jr., as BAM, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, and Medgar Evers College of The City University of New York collaborate to bring you New York’s largest public celebration of one of history’s greatest and most inspiring heroes.
Honored guests include keynote speaker, Walter Mosley, novelist and social commentator. In his acclaimed work, Mosley explores the black experience in America throughout history. His work spans from the migration of African-Americans through the deep South, to Los Angeles in the post-World War II era, and through this current generation’s New York City.
Thousands gathered last night for the two-hour Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting Ceremony. Mayor Bloomberg hit the switch and the 74-foot Norway spruce lit up with 30,000 LED lights. A Swarovski crystal star topped off the tree. Some of the night’s performers included Jessica Simpson, who sang a duet with Petty Officer 3rd Class John Wesley Britt and Boyz II Men who sang Let It Snow. Kylie Minogue, decked out in a furry white cape, warmed up the crowd with her rendition of Santa Baby.
This year's tree was donated by the Acton family of Mahopac, NY. Peter Acton, a New York City fireman, attended the ceremony with his wife, Stephanie, and their two young children. Though the family had grown quite attached to the tree, they took comfort in the fact that the tree would be appreciated by millions of people. “If you had to cut down your tree and give it to any place, New York City is the place you’d want it to be,” said Mr. Acton.
The party was first supposed to be at Good Units, it moved to Williamsburg. This is the second edition of Dark Disco. Their main goal is to bring newborn talents with famous djs at the same party.
They won't only satisfy your ears but your eyes too. This is going to be one of those nights with great djs mixing with hudge screens behind them. I like this concept because it strangely doesn't disturb your focus on the music.
