GRAMMY
Six hours. The time it takes to get from the city to Canada. The time it takes your girlfriend to get ready. The time it takes for you to truly experience the legendary Paul Van Dyk.
Next Friday, July 1st, the Dance.Here.Now. Festival on Governor's Island kicks off your holiday weekend with a exclusive six-hour set by the Grammy-award winner. Better abbreviated as PVD, this artist has been at the forefront of electronic music production since the nineties. With dramatic ascensions and sentimental vocals, PVD brings a beautiful playfulness that is best saved for a summer night.
The blues rock duo were up against stiff competition during the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards, but still managed to come away with two wins. The duo received “Best Alternative Album,” for Brothers, and also “Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals,” for their hit “Tighten Up.” Both looked bewildered when they were called to the stage, recalling the last time they wore suits was at a funeral.
The band was also nominated for “Best Rock Instrumental Performance,” and “Best Rock Song.”
They weren't the only suprises at this years awards, though. Esperanza Spalding won "Best New Artist," as Arcade Fire won "Album Of The Year."
The Grammy's will be taking place on February 13th at the Staples Center, located in Los Angeles, California. Recently, the nominations have been released and it's looking to be a good one.
Here are some of the noted nominations.
1.Album of the Year
The Suburbs - Arcade Fire
Recovery - Eminem
Need You Now - Lady Antebellum
The Fame Monster - Lady Gaga
The music industry just keeps getting better, which generates the gloomy realization that the radio will have to suffice instead of hearing the tunes in the past college bar scene. Some artist's have continued creating catchy tracks while others have blown up, showing that they aren't going anywhere anytime soon.
In short, 2010's music can most be remembered for Lady Gaga, Bruno making all the females swoon and an exhilarating formal introduction to Mumford & Sons. Not to mention the satisfaction in knowing that Kings of Leon will continue to be the best rock band for years to come with their Southern root melodies and lyrics that without a doubt will catch listener's pressing repeat on their playlist.
This Monday night, experience football in a whole new light. After last weekends successful opening of LIV at Sun Life Stadium, be there for round two as the Miami Dolphins take on the New England Patriots Monday, October 4. Famed DJ, Mr. Mauricio, will be spinning throughout the night as Grammy winning artist, Kelly Rowland, hits the mic for the half time show. Don’t miss out on the pre-kickoff party, with sponsored performance by Brett Michaels. You will surely want to enjoy this epic night of football from one of the many cabanas or tables LIV at Sun Life has to offer.
Saturday marked the season's grand opening of MGM Grand's Wet Republic hosted by heartthrob LL Cool J. LL's cool demeanor never faltered in the sweltering 88 degree heat. Wearing indigo shades,a newsboy cap, t-shirt, jeans and Gucci sneakers, LL sure stood out from the crowd of ladies wearing practically nothing at all.
But while the NCIS: Los Angeles star might not have been showing all that much skin, he did display his sexiest asset: that perfect smile.
Sarah Palin took a seat on Jay Leno's couch Tuesday night to chat and giggle and all that other nonsense guests do on late-night talk shows. Once the two were done catching up, Leno announced that Palin was going to make her "comedy debut" (apparently SNL doesn't count). The former Governor of Alaska took to the stage and performed a pretty decent stand-up routine. She joked about the things you'd expect: Alaska (it's so cold there it's "5 degrees below Congress' approval rating"), not being the vice president ("I would not know what to do with all that free time), and of course, Tina Fey ("I have been really busy, I've picked up a gig in Las Vegas, at the Legends show, playing Tina Fey.")
They say that the best things in life are free, and this is one of them. The hipster idols - Ok, French alt rock band Phoenix, along with Sea Wolf, are coming to The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on January 28th, and Las Vegas Weekly and AEG Live want to give you free tickets!
Singer/songwriter and overall pop sensation Lady Gaga may not be fit to appear in US Vogue but she is the perfect cover girl for US ELLE. In the first issue of 2010, Lady Gaga not only graces the cover of the popular women's magazine (and my bible), she also give an insightful interview revealing her thoughts on being considered a sex symbol, wanting a family life and her music. Here is a highlight of the interview:
"In
eight to ten years, I want to have babies for my dad to hold, grandkids.
And I want to have a husband who loves and supports me, just the way
anyone else does. I would never leave my career for a man right now,
and I would never follow a man around."
- 11/1 David Foster and Friends @ the Hard Rock Live in Hollywood.
The evening is a virtual jukebox worth of songs written and/or produced by Mr. Foster. He will be joined by Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, offering hits reminiscent of your 8th grade school dance. Among other “friends,” Chicago front-man Peter Cetera will get down with “Hard to Say I’m Sorry,” and string man Boz Scaggs will reprise “Look What You’ve Done to Me” from Urban Cowboy. Other co-performers include Josh Groban and Kenny G.
- 11/4 Mute Math @ Revolution Live
This is sure to be a night full of danceable electro-pop fun. The band is best known for their single “Typical,” which is featured on one of my personal favorite Discovery Channel shows, Man vs. Wild. This venue can fit around 2,000 people, so get your tickets early for some solid face-to-face time with the band.
