HALLOWEEN COSTUMES
Anyone who made a trip outside this weekend has no doubt seen a handful of costumes good and bad already. Plenty of the worst will no doubt pop up all over the internet tomorrow. Bad costumes come in plenty of forms. A few classics are the the last minute costume, the unfunny joke costume, the unintentionally terrifying costumes, and the unintentionally hilarious costumes. These are the costumes that will keep us in stitches for years to come.
However, for every step back in the costume department, there is at least one step forward--at least for kids. Children now have more costume options than any generation before them. While it’s true, a few classics remain favorites, there is still a sea of options for this day most generous with its tricks and treats. Our parents and grandparents had fewer options. There were scary costumes...and unintentionally scary costumes. ComicsAlliance, masters of all things comic book related, has put together a list of some of the most horrifying offenders.
It's Halloween time, so strap on your shoes ladies and fierce queens, and make a dash for MAC cosmetics! Because, Venomous Villians, has finally arrived on MAC cosmetics shelves. There is no better time than the month of October, for the launch of this new line. Need to be filled in on the latest beauty buzz now? Well, step into a MAC store, kidnap a clerk and stash as many Venomous Villians products as one can. They are selling so fast, it seems as if they're already collectors’ items. Try the Fillmore or Union Street locations, or even last resort Macy’s, but there is no guarantee that anything will be left except a brochure.
We obsess over wearing (and affording) their clothing, but this Halloween it's time to honor the person behind the label. Best of all, you probably have all the items in your closet, can buy them cheap and will be able to wear them after the last bottle is popped at this year's greatest bash.
The legendary creative director of Barneys has graced our beloved aisles of Target with affordable Halloween costumes this year! Coming up with a creative costume poses stress for most trendy ladies during this time of year and it’s almost always due to all the cool costumes costing us an arm and a leg. The style icon has alleviated all of our stress with his new line, Costume Couture by Simon Doonan.
With Halloween nipping at our heels, everybody’s asking “what are you going to be for Halloween?” Every year, without fail, the theme for women seems to be “Look as slutty as possible without getting arrested for indecent exposure” and I’m sure the same will go for this year. While those costumes are awesome and fun in their own right, Urban Outfitters is offering alternatives that cover up and keep you warm (they also allow you to finally be able to show your parents pictures of you on Halloween). Here are some fun and SFW options for your Halloween costumes:
Don't be afraid, this is not another fat Elvis costume with a tacky white jumpsuit. We love young, hunky Elvis, so what better outfit to mimic than his famous head-to-toe leather?
And lucky for the last minute ladies, this get-up can be put together with a few faux favorites:
1.The faux-leather jacket: It can be real leather or a fabulous faux. Just slip it on over a black tank and you're already halfway done!
2. The pants: Faux-leather leggings are everywhere this fall. Wherever your shopping may lead you, Forever 21 to Bloomingdales, you are sure to find a pair. They are a perfect way to womanize your Elvis look.
In my last attempt to recreate some reality star looks this Halloween, I can't leave out our favorite orange-colored, pickle-loving, pint-size "guidette." Snooki is going to be pretty popular this Halloween, along with other infamous Jersey Shore cast members. After all, who wouldn't want to arrive as the life of the party? Here are some simple steps to Snook your look.
Let's start from the top: poof first. To achieve the signature poof, it's going to take a lot of teasing, hairspray and hair pins. Layer by layer, tease the hair on top of your head, shape the poof and secure it to the scalp. If you need assistance, call on your trusty companion: the Bumpit.
Continuing in the spirit of imitation, turn some heads at your Halloween party and dress up as someone who has had their fair share of controversy this year. Whether it be her alleged affair, and now public courtship, with former Mr. Bullock, Jesse James, or the launch of her new makeup line and book, Kat Von D is a woman whose presence is hard to miss. Luckily, however, her rockstar look can be fairly simple to recreate this Halloween.
As far as attire, stick to tight, black and skimpy wardrobe separates. A leather vest, skinny black jeans and anything with metallic studs will do the trick. For footwear, select a tall platform pump or boot: the edgier, the better. Keep makeup fairly simple with a dark smoky eye and bright red lips.
Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. So, what better than to honor some of reality TV’s most notorious stars with a spot-on Halloween costume. You’re sure to be recognized on Halloween night, and maybe even mistaken for someone else.
My first choice for the week is Bravo TV Star and Celebrity Stylist, Rachel Zoe of The Rachel Zoe Project. Break out mamma's kaftans from the 70s, or go for glam-Zoe with silky, draping and mega bling. Come to think of it, a Rachel Zoe costume may be just a good excuse to invest in a fabulous get-up: add some wavy locks, a pair of oversized, round sunglasses, heals with killer height and incorporate some simple Zoe-isms. Try these on for size: "Oh my gosh, I LITERALLY thought you were a real vampire," "Your costume is so chic, I die." or "This party is bananas!"
Is Halloween really just an excuse to wear as little amount of clothing as possible? Well, not really. But, if that's your idea of dressing up, Victoria Secret has finally launched a line of Halloween costumes for 2010.
The Sexy Little Fantasies collection offers complete ensembles such as the Sexy Little Cowgirl, Sexy Little Senorita and the Sexy Little Kitty. Take caution: most of the collection does seem a bit too risqué for anywhere outside the bedroom, but at least Victoria's Secret has gotten into the Halloween spirit and given us a reason to have a super sexy spookfest.
