Cool It: Manhattan's Best Pools

Maneuvering the heat in Manhattan isn't always easy. The sun is shinning from every glass window and the asphalt is usually breathing out a hot spell. There's little ventilation and always being on the run isn't precisely great for avoiding perspiration. We'll tan on our rooftops, sprawl out in Central Park, but what we really want is, please God, a pool. Below is a list of the best hotel pools in Manhattan and the best part is you don't need to be an overnight guest to take a splash.

A Few Questions For Paul Van Dyk

The lobby of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Brickell Key has an air of prestige that is breathtaking. Known for housing Miami’s most famous and influential tourists, our anticipation with the knowledge of who we were about to meet was palpable. It seemed almost strange that within the walls of such a pristine and peaceful haven was Paul Van Dyk – known for house music that would blow the roof off the very structure we were in. In Miami to give the closing performance for WMC 2011 at Mansion nightclub, PVD walked into the lobby with an ethereal demeanor that has undoubtedly evolved over the past two decades. Known as one of the founders of electronic music, Paul Van Dyk is a music legend, an international icon, and a beacon of creativity and innovation in the music industry.

Indulge at MOzen Bistro's Sake Sunday Brunch

MOzen Bistro

3752 S. Las Vegas Blvd (inside Mandarin Oriental)

Las Vegas, NV 89109

I'm frugal--like frighteningly frugal--but if there's one thing I'm willing to splurge on, it's brunch. There's something about an early afternoon meal where the alcohol is downed with abandon that really has a place in my heart.

Now, MOzen Bistro at Mandarin Oriental's new Sunday brunch offering is testing my Jewi sh sensibility and tempting me to spend, spend, spend and eat, eat, eat!

TV's Your New BFF at Aria & Mandarin Oriental

It should come as no surprise that CityCenter's Aria and Mandarin Oriental are once again acting as Las Vegas pioneers. This time, the hotels have revolutionized the technology that is available and incorporated into the rooms. With the help of home automation and control company, Control4, Aria and Mandarin Oriental are now the most technologically advanced resorts on the Strip.

GLAM DAMN IT
Lunch With Lartigue

Jetting uptown to Bloomingdale's during lunch hour yesterday was a delightful treat; as John Hardy showcased his Spring 2010 & Chinta collections. Attendees swarmed to the jewelry counters to gaze at prominently-sized sterling silver, jade stones and interlocking chain links. Prices ranged from $500 to $2000; although I was able to sort out a divine rope bracelet for $295. The one-day only event was preempted by a luncheon hosted by Hardy; positioned himself behind the counter, engraving shoppers jewelry with customizations.

A Fortnight of Fab Food

It used to be that Restaurant Week was one week of dinners or lunches for a great deal (usually the year in dollars and cents 2009 = $20.09.). Now Restaurant week extends for at least another week, and for some restaurants the entire month, and has a much broader depth including shows, and hotel packages.

This year Arts Boston has everything from Stephen Petronio Company at the Institute for Contemporary Arts at half off to Bobby McFerrin at Symphony Hall. There is the American Repertory Theatre's much loved Donkey Show and José Matteo's Ballet Theatre's new show, Out of the Dark.

It's New Year's Again Already?

Las Vegas was the American epicenter for New Year's Eve and now, a month and a half later, Vegas once prepares to usher in another new year like no where else in the country can.

Chinese New Year is one of the most important periods for Las Vegas business. Last weekend, thousands of international and domestic visitors are heading to the Strip for the celebration this weekend.

Since Chinese New Year fell on the same weekend as Valentine's Day and President's Day this year, the potential number of travelers (and the money they may spend) was expected to drastically increase.
