Spike Jonze's New Short Film, "I'm Here"

When it comes to Spike Jonze, how else can you describe the man but other than original? His resume touches on all aspects of creativity with directing music videos, (Beastie Boys - Sabotage and Bjork) unbelievable feature films like Being John Malkovich, Adaptation, and creating the MTV show Jackass (and staring in it at times).

Recently Jonze completed a short film with Kanye West titled We Were Once a Fairytale. This was Jonze's second time working with Kanye after he co-directed the video Flashing Lights.

Fan of Kanye’s music videos? Well even if you aren’t, you certainly must admire the creativity and radical-ness that comes without fail in full throttle in each and every one of them. It wasn’t until now, however, that I discovered the brains behind one of his most ingeniously bizarre vids—Spike Jonze. Just in case you’re unfamiliar with Jonze —he is an academy award-nominated director, specializing in film, television, and music videos. The latter of which has helped rap artist Kanye West achieve the pedestal-like levels of music video success from their collaborative work on the video for Kanye’s “Flashing Lights.” Known for their viewer-discretion-advised violence and hard core action shots, the duo strikes again with their second effort, a new short film entitled We Were Once a Fairytale, featuring Kanye's song "See You in My Nightmares." The project, which debuted in June at the L.A. Film Festival, will arrive on iTunes on September 8th, and is said to take their violence-frenzy level up a notch, with “sex, rose petals vomiting, allusions to drug use, West engaging in knife play, and (this made me cringe a little) a demon rodent emerging from his stomach.”

Umm…sounds slightly disturbing...yet oddly intriguing, no? Whatever the case, this odd sounding unique work of art between the two talented artists is surely something to check out, but you should be forewarned—those with easy upchuck reflexes are probably better off missing out…
