These tiny bites of salty-sweet, oceanic delicacies are making their second debut in Washington, DC this Sunday, October 18, at the DC Oysterfest 2 in Union Market. From the humble seafood lover to oyster connoisseurs, this is your chance to satisfy that bivalve craving you been dying to scratch all fall. Rediscover your inner hippie-mollusk at the “1 Day of Peace, Music, and Oysters” festival that’ll keep you happy as a clam.
Presenting oysters from the Rappahannock Oyster Bar, this is the one occasion you won’t be reprimanded for slurping your food (sorry Mom). The Rappahannock Oyster Co. features the freshest farm-raised oysters from the Chesapeake Bay since 1899 with a variety being showcased from high to low salinity. For those of you that aren’t fans of these pearl-bearing morsels, don’t despair – plenty of local food trucks and vendors will be serving alternative fare, such as Gordy’s Pickle Jar and Dolcezza. In addition to food, you can complement your palate with an assortment of libations including Capitoline Vermouth, Early Mountain Vineyard, Flying Dog Brewery, 3 Stars Brewery, and more.
Go on and keep eating your little gastronomic heart out at the oyster eating contest or show off your fisherman alter ego at the shucking contest. Oysterfest will include a wealth of activities to keep you occupied from an arts and crafts tent to live bluegrass music. Hosted at Dock 5 at Union Market, you’ll be sauntering from vendor to vendor in seafood nirvana for a delectable afternoon of peace, love, and oysters.
