Scene
Step into this U Street dive to find the crowd singing along to “Don't Stop Believing” while waving their cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon in the air. With different events throughout the week, Solly’s is sure to keep you entertained every night of the week. Tuesdays Solly’s offers Deaf Happy Hour, a special night for the hearing impaired. The bartender is fluent in American Sign Language and the owner’s daughter attends Gallaudet University, a school for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. If you’re a student at Gallaudet or want to check it out, stop by for a great happy hour with a signing bartender! Other events throughout the week include Kostume Karoke, Open Mic Night, Trivia Night and Comedy Night, all in the upstairs bar.
Eats & Drinks
Miller Lite Tall boys, cans of PBR and tater tots. How much better can it get? Solly’s Tavern is the classiest of all dive bars. This is the place to hang out with your friends while drinking beers at a price you can afford. Every Thursday, get swollen off five dollar Jagermeister and Monday through Friday, don’t miss the Happy Hour deals until 8 pm. Budweiser, Pale Ale, Miller Lite, Pabst Blue Ribbon and Jack Daniel’s all between 3 and 5 dollars, while all house liquors are just 3 dollars a pop. Enjoy these cheap drinks while playing some fun filled trivia with your friends!
Ambience
Let’s start the atmosphere out with this – a circa 1980, classic Pabst Blue Ribbon neon signs hangs over the bar, with moving lights that captivate drinkers, maybe even slipping them a tad further into intoxication. In the rustic and polished downstairs you will find, a jukebox, plasma TV's on the walls and an entrance to a fun patio that is both simple and sophisticated. At Solly’s, the beer is cheap, the bartenders are funny, the music is good and the people are chill. With a standing capacity of about 85, Solly’s is a great place to throw a party or just hang out on a Sunday watching football.
