Scene

Located in the U Street section of DC, Café Saint-Ex offers customers a combination of a restaurant and lounge area. The Café is home to a lounge situated in the downstairs level called Gate 54. The café itself features a calm and welcoming ambiance, with notable and stylish customers. You will probably not run into an ex here, but if you do don’t worry, because the bar is bustling on the weekends, with the house serving up their fruitful and thirst-quenching cocktails to delight the senses. Café-Saint Ex offers customers and delights them with their American-style cuisine, roomy and spacious ambiance, making an overall pleasure-filled evening.

Eats & Drinks

The eats of Café Saint-Ex include the mouthwatering PEI Mussels dish a house favorite, topped with garlic and spices present a pleasant filled aroma of your senses. The Ex also offers other types of American Style cuisine while chefs incorporate healthy and organic filled ingredients in their dishes. For dinner Café-Ex offers a fixed menu so each and every customer is able to taste a sample of each course at a reasonable price. Drink offering include specialty house beers such as the Viking, Magic Hat #9, and Tilburg’s Dutch Brown, among others. Regular beers are also offered among 20 types of whiskey. A long list of scotches is also available for those who desire. Lastly, dessert wines and ports are also on the list.

Ambience

The ambiance of Café-Saint Ex features mustard colored walls surrounding wood chairs and tables. Pendant lights hang from the high ceilings and spreads light on the surrounding bar below. One side of the restaurant features exposed brick walls, as a background for the historical photos. A classic French style tin ceiling accents the space, creating an intimate setting. The bar is more like a work of art than a display because it features so many liquor bottles. The space is a little narrow but it works well a busy, packed venue area. During cool springs and summer nights, dine at Café-Saint Ex at their outdoor seating area.

Venue Description:

Transformed in the last few years from secretive 14th Street watering hole to trendy hipster hotspot, Saint-Ex is one of DC’s best small dance clubs. Skillful DJs spin only hip-hop in the lower level, playing a mix of old school classics and current radio hits. As the club’s popularity has soared, Saint-Ex has taken to roping off the door on weekends, sometimes as early as midnight – not entirely a bad idea since the club gets extremely crowded quickly. Drinks are strong, expensive and at times impossible to get since the tiny bar is usually always packed. The ground-level restaurant serves tasty, although overpriced, organic food and fine Belgian beers.
