A relatively unheralded bar located in the Northeast neighborhood of Brookland, Island JimÂ's Crab Shack is treasured by Catholic University students and long-time locals alike. The jewel of Island JimÂ's is the outside patio/tiki bar – where the owners truck in fresh beach sand every summer. But this particular tiki bar is no frat party – the laid-back beach scene feels far removed from the rowdy patios of Northwest D.C. The cozy inside bar is less exciting, but fits the bill during the winter months. The menu, while a little pricey, features superb Caribbean/Cajun food, and the surprisingly potent fruity drinks will knock you off your seat.
