Tips on Throwing a Killer Bachelor/Bachelorette Party

Let's face it -- weddings are for parents. Receptions, with their buffet meals and tired DJs, might as well be for grandparents. The real party lies a few days before, as best men and bridesmaids try to show their besties one more wild night before they get hitched.

But as anyone who has ever thrown a stag party (or "hen party," as bachelorettes are called across the pond) knows, debauchery takes planning. No one likes being forced to make decisions late in the evening, and if you're doing it right, no one will be able to. Luckily for the faint of heart, we've assembled some tips for those who dare to go above and beyond for their soon-to-be-newlywed friends.

Get Familiar: Up and Coming NYC DJs

You can’t help it. You leave state and everyone gawks. No, no booger in your nose. Is it your high top Dunks? Your blow-out? Your puma-like walking pace?

Whatever it is about you, it’s decidedly New York. And you can’t escape it. That’s why at the Winter Music Conference you share dance space with the same people, attend the same parties, at the same places. (The following can be combined for all plausible possibilities: Danny Tenaglia, marathon, Space Terrace, Victor Calderone, Boris, Surfcomber, Shelbourne.)

But hold on. These names are at the very end of a long line of local NYC DJs-- Exacta and Merritt, Sleepy & Boo, Tedd Patterson, Cevin Fisher-- who’s local residencies have led to (inter)national success.

Below is a list of the top 5 upcoming New York City DJs. Support your local scene and go see them while they still play for free before midnight.

1. Michael Anthony

Prophetic even in name, Michael Anthony sees himself as “herding an eclectic mix of wolves of sheep.” Revolutionary and brash, he explains how he got into house music; “I thought it was fascinating how some DJs just made the crowd straight up blow them for hours on end. I kind of thought to myself, wow, I want a crowd to blow me too. Then, it all kind of meshed together.” (Sex, music and Michael Anthony).

The Darby Adds Class To 14th

Richie Akiva and Scott Sartiano's claim their newest project, The Darby, will not be like their other ventures, or even like the other restaurant/nightclub sets around today.

The pair say they "want to bring back an old-fashioned sense of class from the ’50’s and ’60’s, ... a place where you can dress up, have an amazing dinner and some music and entertainment." From the guys that created iconic venues like 1 Oak and Butter we would expect nothing less.

On board for the project is TV personality, Chef Alexandra Guarnaschelli who has talked about a Continental menu featuring a raw bar and small plates for sharing.

The Darby: Wear your best. Bring your appetite.

Fashion Week & Still Recovering… OUCH!

Fashion Week

Fashion Week started out as a tropical depression and soon escalated into a category four hurricane. A deluge of shows, events and parties poured down on the city, its' inhabitants and visitors drowning some of us, while others fled to the safety of their favorite haunts or low key hideouts - secretly wanting to challenge the onslaught of the storm that is Fashion Week.

I, for one, opted for the challenge and fought on through, only to pay the price of a two day hangover and a loss of 8% body mass. The lack of sleep and juggling of work, fashion and fun caught up to me late Friday night (actually early Saturday morning). After an amazing dinner and party at Cipriani we ran over to Rose Bar then to 1 Oak (Richie’s week early Bday party) and finally to a friends loft in Soho, and then back to my place with friends - OUCH!!!

War/ Nightlife Craziness/ The Olympics - Incredible!

Politics

I have to start with politics. I woke up a couple days ago and repeated my same routine, turn on the computer then the TV. Tune to the news, head to the kitchen to fill the tea pot, pausing to decide between tea and coffee (coffee), then back to the computer. What the hell do I read on Yahoo? Russia invades Georgia??? It was like reading something from the Cold War Era.

I squinted, frowned and thought maybe the heading had something to do with the Olympics. How is it possible that after seeing the grievous errors in approach, mentality and miscalculation of world opinion that the Bush administration made in the lead up and prosecution of the “Iraq War”, could the Russian government attack and invade Georgia?

Diddy's Concept

I went to a meeting with Tim Martin at Martin Cadillac to discuss some future projects, and what does owner Matt Taylor tell me? GM has a deal with Diddy to develop a concept vehicle. Now that’s a good idea regarding a new marketing strategy. As we discuss the merits of the idea a secretary comes in and says they delivered the new vehicle. It’s a black on black Cadillac Escalade with a 32″ pop-up flat screen, reclining seats, a full bar in the front console, internet connections and computer links to the flat screen. It was PIMP!!!
