3.1 PHILLIP LIM
As a part of Saks' contemporary-wear expansion, the storied NYC flagship formally opened the first 3.1 Phillip Lim “shop-in-shop” with an exclusive launch party Wednesday night.
Nestled on the store’s fifth floor, the 825 square foot space will play host exclusively to the 3.1 Phillip Lim brand. Known for its hip, modern aesthetic, the brand’s space is a welcome addition to the floor which also houses other in-demand contemporary brand’s as Rag and Bone, Vince and Alice + Olivia. Saks’ expansion within this division of women’s apparel was a strategic move, as this area has experienced a boom within recent years and continues to steadily drive sales within the industry. WWD reports that women’s apparel saw over $1.05 billion dollars in sales fin 2011 at Saks, which is over a third of the company’s entire sales volume and the area which represents the store’s largest portion of revenue.
While ready-to-wear often steals the spotlight, we’d be making a big mistake not to give some special attention to the fresh beauty trends that graced the runway last week. With as much presence as the covetable clothing, New York Fashion Week’s Fall 2012 season brought us an assortment of hair and makeup looks that inspire our beauty routines as much as the collections inspired our wardrobes. From voluminous, airy updos to nail art we’ll be taking to the salon, here are the best and brightest beauty highlights from backstage to the catwalk. (Hint: keep those tweezers at bay—bushy eyebrows aren’t going anywhere!)
It looks like black and white monochrome is going to be a big hit this fall, folks! 3.1 Phillip Lim’s Fall ’12 collection did a fantastic job of incorporating this look in with the simplistic pieces of his line. The androgyny behind the suits kept them looking sleek and chic with clean lines and straight fits. However simple his clothing is, there had to be a pop somewhere. Towards the middle of the show in came brighter blues, turquoise, and dark greens, mixed with geometric shapes. We loved the sharp lapels and collars as well as the exposed zippers at the bottom front of the slim fit trousers. It’s the little things like these that help to give the looks a modern rawness.
