The Lower East Side is one of Manhattan’s number one places to eat, drink and party. The diversity of the people who live and play in LES have made it a great place for restaurants, bars and clubs to be creative and offer a wide variety of experiences for its guests. 2 years ago Sons of Essex opened on Essex St. and quickly became sort of a home base for the neighborhood where they could enjoy great food, unique cocktails and listen to dope music.
Even as SOE has become a hotspot for celebrities such as Drake, who shouted out Sons as one of his favorite restaurants, SOE has continued to make its loyal regulars and friends from the neighborhood their top priority. There was no greater example of this than during the tragic aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. With no power, Sons of Essex brought a few board games and some snacks over, opened the doors and served neighbors at the bar by candlelight. On the Friday after the storm, resident DJ’s Andrew & Andrew stopped by the venue with battery powered turntables and rocked out with tons of SOE friends and neighbors. It is this type of love for community and overall awesomeness that has allowed Sons of Essex to become one of NYC’s most successful restaurants 2 years straight.
