GorgeousChanel Iman has been in the news most recently for dating rapper, A$AP Rocky. But she has been been making news in elite fashion for much, much longer. The model (or supermodel, rather) has been making steady waves and devoted fans for several years now. The girl with the uniqely fashion name—both Chanel and Iman—is a superstar.
Although born in Atlanta, Chanel hails from LA. She signed with an agency at 13, and loved the camera. The camera clearly loved her, as she aced the Ford Look of the Year contest and won coveted 3rd place. Of mixed ancestry (both African American and Korean), Chanel has the exotic good looks that fashion was crying out for, Yet, as she spoke of on the Tyra Banks Show there were fews spots for black models like herself and her supermodel peers: Jourdan Dunn, Joan Smalls, and Arlenis Sosa.
NOLCHA Fashion Week showcased some of the best independant designers around. Fashion junkies, celebrities, and the media flocked to Chelsea Piers this week to check out some of the hottest fashion and we were not disappointed. Although there were so many great looks and trends on the runway this week, we've selected our three favorites trends from NOLCHA that we can't wait to see more of!
Tulle Skirts: Mermaid sillouhettes with an abundance of tulle were prominent during NOLCHA Fashion Week. Adolfo Sanchez perfected this look with three stunning gowns of different colors and slightly different styles. His looks that featured this trend were romantic, sophisticated and breathtakingly beautiful. His show-stopping final piece was a black leather dress with an over-the-top tulle skirt at the bottom and emphasized with a bold feather collar. Studio 6th Sense also showcased this look with an aysemmetrical dominatrix-style gown and Andressa Leao debuted a stunning short cupcake dress with the skirt made of tulle. It was a fresh and young take on the other tulle skirts showed during the week.

Aleah Speranza, owner of The Hoodie Shop, recently collaborated with NYC-based designer Alexander Campaz. Upon first glance, 139 West 10th Street blends in with the century-old brownstones on this quiet, tree-lined West Village Street. On closer inspection though, you see the small white and black stencil sign above the door. This wooden sign tells you that this is not just another brownstone apartment building but rather De Santos, an inviting and warm restaurant with a deep connection to the arts throughout its history and in the present day. De Santos is co-owned by Alex González, the drummer of the hugely popular Mexican rock band Maná, Luis Miguel Amuito, and Sebastian Gonella. The owners all also have their own links to the world of art and music making 139 West 10th Street an appealing location for their Contemporary American restaurant.

“I heard about this frog…” it wasn’t a very tiny frog, but it was very special. I didn’t find it in the jungle, but instead Hammerstein Ballroom; and indeed, my world is changed forever.
As darkness descended upon the crowd, the rumbling from above began. The growing, anticipatory hum of amplifiers, accompanied by neon diamonds lit up behind the stage, rained down an overwhelming feeling of epic-ness. The feeling? E.T. didn’t have a spacecraft of this magnitude. Suddenly, rolling synth overtook the airwaves and the universally cosmic message of “Intro” came belting out of front-man Anthony Gonzalez’ mouth… “Carry On”.
Years of construction have plagued the South Street Sea Port neighborhood, but New Yorkers know the best finds are worth navigating through the commotion, isn’t that right New Yorkers?
Since its inception nine months ago, 121 Fulton Street has brought in the Suits and the Denim galloping through the horse carriage streets with its casual atmosphere and upscale decorum.
Guests have their choice of seating at either the bar, intimate tables for two on black leather stools, or a separate dining room. Wednesday evenings the crowd swells for the Eurocup games, the NBA Finals, and whatever your heart desires on their arsenal of televisions throughout the restaurant.
Andaz Wall Street is going all out this summer. First they launch their farmer's market...and now, a biergarten! The new biergarten is now located in the courtyard adjacent to the hotel and will be open Monday through Saturday from 2:30pm until 9pm. The fifty-seater biergarten is offering up a selection of German beers, including Franziskaner and Spaten Lager, as well as local brews like Red Wagon IPA and Capt. Lawrence Liquid Gold. 14 oz. beers will sell for $7, half liter for $11, and liter beers for $16. Pretzels and sausages will soon make their way into the mix, as well.
Move over, Loreley, you've got some new competition in town.
