Beastie Boys' Adam Yauch Has Passed Away

It's a sad day for Beastie Boys fans as Adam Yauch, has passed away from cancer at age 47. Yauch, also known as MCA, was diagnosed with cancer in 2009 when doctors found a tumor in his salivary gland. He had been receiving treatment for the past 3 years, delaying the release of the group's most recent album, Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. 2, and preventing the group from performing live. In March Adam announced he was unable to attend the Beastie Boys' induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland on March 14, a clear sign his health had declined further.

"It Could be Nice to be Alive" (And Well We Hope!)

Adam “MCA” Yauch, better known as one-third of New York hip-hop mainstays the Beastie Boys, was diagnosed with cancer of the parotid gland (salivary gland behind the cheek) back in July. Thankfully, Yauch noticed the swelling in his glands early and therefore, at a very treatable stage. Since then, he’s successfully had the tumor removed, and is quoted recently as saying that he feels “healthy, strong and hopeful that (he’s) beaten this thing.” The procedure was not expected to affect his vocals.

Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys has Cancer.

Okay,

so here are the basics: Yes, it is true that Adam Yauch has cancer. About two months ago he realized that he could feel a small lump in his throat. The doctors found that he has cancer parotid gland and lymph node. The good news is that they scanned his whole body and the cancer is localized in that one area. Also it is in its early stages and is very treatable, so we will definitely keeping our fingers crossed.

Yauch made this announcement via a YouTube video, which can be found on their website. Alongside band-mate Adam Horowitz, he said the rest of their performances are cancelled and their next album Hot Sauce Committee, Part 1 release will be pushed back.

At the end of the video, Yauch apologizes at length to the fans for the cancelled shows. There is no need to apologize, just get better!
