Yesterday, new baked goods shop, Vegan Divas, opened up on the UES with a slew of health-friendly treats. Founder Fernanda Capobianco (wife of famed Francois Payard) is excited about opening her flagship store after her brand took off in the US. Celebrities such as Madonna and Alicia Silverstone have already caught on to the phenomenon that is Vegan Divas. The vegan sweets replace animal products with healthier ingredients such as maple syrup and cold pressed coconut oil, making the goodies less caloric, kosher, and both cholesterol and lactose free.
Alice Temperley + John Lewis
If you’re a fan of fashion from across the pond, (and who isn’t) you’ll be as excited as we are to hear this news. Somerset by Alice Temperley will be debuting this fall for British department store John Lewis. The chic London-based brand’s skyrocketing popularity, thanks to a pair of stylish Middletons and red carpet royalty, has us eager to get the looks for ourselves. Launching September 4th (plus additional partywear in October) the line is infused with signature Temperley style, including influences from feminine lace embellishment to tough military hardware. The 60-piece collection boasts reasonably priced apparel and accessories, like dresses from $160, mixed with luxe options like the $1,600 sheepskin coat. Sneak peeks report “sheer paneled two-tone dresses and beaded Indian evening gowns, studded nappa leather handbags and animal print scarves.” (MarieClaire) Luckily, John Lewis ships internationally—let the countdown to Temperley in our closets begins!
If you recycle and carry your groceries in a tote bag, keep in mind that reducing meat consumption is an essential part a sustainable lifestyle, according to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). As much as recycling helps, it is meat consumption that is doing the most damage. Here are three BIG reasons to quit meat for good:
It may seem hard to believe, but there was a time when socks were scrunched, skinny “jeans” weren’t made of denim (or for women), and Cher Horowitz was idolized by all. Although there is irrefutable evidence proving the '90s were a dark time for America regarding all things fashion, these icons definitely bring back memories of a simpler time (when news came on paper, carrying a cell phone was considered an aerobic workout, and names comprised of a number were not the norm).
Cher Horowitz/ Alicia Silverstone
Kevin Nealon- He may play a hilarious slacker/ pot head on the hit television series Weeds, but one thing Kevin is serious about is animal rights. He's been a proud vegetarian for the past 20 years, even partaking in a hilarious "vegetarian testimonial" for PETA. So maybe what comes from the earth really is the greatest worth?
A Clueless sequel is in the works. A source says, “They were talking about the script they’re working on and how exciting this is for them. It’s been a dream of Alicia’s to bring Cher back to the big screen. Amy is writing it, but Alicia is giving her tons of ideas” after spotting Alicia Silverstone and director and writer of Clueless, Amy Heckerling shopping together in Tarzana, California.
Seriously? I don’t even know what to think. It’s been almost 15 years … What, is Cher Horowitz going to come back as ditzy rich housewife?
