In New York, restaurants, clubs, and lounges can be a very incestuous business. You’re likely to see the same names overlapping various venues and events because sociality is the name of the game.
Rivalry and bitterness can ensue when it comes to public recognition especially when it come to someone you've spent time mentoring. With any professional field comes a kudos event tailored toward those in that industry. The film industry has The Academy, the internet has The Webbys, and the food industry has the James Beard Foundation.
The Third Annual Burgie Awards are returning to South Florida this November! The event will be held at the new Magic City Casino on Saturday, November 19th where several burger experts will be competing for awards such as: “Best Burger 2011”, “Best BBQ Joint”, “Best Fries”, “Best Desert” and “Best Food Truck.” All kinds of Specialty Burger Restaurants will be grilling on site while awaiting the results. Newer restaurants and landmark restaurants alike: Burger and Beer Joint in South Beach, Tobacco Road from Brickell, The Local from Coral Gables and Pincho Factory located in Westchester.
Mark your calendars, August 28th 2011, is MTV's Video Music Awards. It will be the 28th annual award show, the 2nd to take place at the Nokia Theatre.
The channel no longer plays music but counts on the viewer ship. Last years award show earned a little over 11 million viewers.
You can be sure to count on appearances by the cast of Jersey Shore and maybe even someone from Sixteen and Pregnant. Yes, seriously; an award show desperate for viewer ship will do anything.
Last years show had a meat covered Lady Gaga, barefoot Taylor Swift, and experimental hip-hop art by Kanye West. It will be a difficult feat to match.
Comedy Central and MTV Networks have recently announced a collaboration to honor the best comedy films, actors, T.V. series, stand-up, and digital content to hit the nation. This huge event will be the first multi-network, multi-platform, yearly celebration dedicated to honoring and celebrating the world of comedy.
The Comedy Awards will take place in none other than New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom on March 26th and will premiere all across MTV Networks, Spike TV, TV Land, VH1, and of course, Comedy Central on Sunday, April 10th, 2011.
The BET Hip-Hop Awards took place last Saturday and talk of the night centered on the number of people who weren’t in attendance, including Kanye West, who was unexpectedly absent during the festivities, thereby eliminating any opportunity for acceptance speech interruptions.
The most talked about of the absent honorees was dirty-South lyricist, T.I., who is serving time in an Arkansas federal prison on a weapons conviction. The rapper had won two awards, one for Album of the Year for his work on the highly acclaimed Paper Trail and one for Best Collaboration with Rhianna on the song “Live Your Life.” T.I.’s fiancée, Tameka “Tiny” Cottle, accepted the awards on behalf of the incarcerated rapper and read a letter from T.I. to the audience,
