Jennifer Hudson Shines at Lucky Shops Event

Who has been naughty? Who has been nice? Regardless, you more than likely need to check-off everyone deserving on your holiday to-do list! We were among a bevvy of fashionable ladies last night on Mercer Street in Soho, NYC to kick-off the season's shopping festivities and meet the lovely Jennifer Hudson. Hudson, the current cover model in the January 2013 cover of Lucky Magazine was on hand to chat with media and fashionable shoppers a-like! In the January issue, she opens up candidly about her dietary needs, her new QVC line and much more. She also talks about her weight loss and having fun when dressing up! Last night, the Lucky Shops event kicked off a 3-day shopping extravaganza where the women of NYC will enjoy special discounts from stylish vendors. Some of our favorites were the vibrant-chic dresses at Hunter Dixon (silky and give you enough room to enjoy a holiday feast), Jewelry by Jane Basch (monogram pieces favored by Gwen Stefani) and the Maybelline run-way photo op (where you received a complimentary make-over and photo-shoot). Tasty cupcakes by Baked by Melissa were served by handsome waiters and tasty 'smores treats topped off a fabulous soiree that featured roughly fifty designers including names such as; Rebecca Minkoff, Foley & Corinna and Jill Stuart. Baked By Melissa Cupcake Pod

Cupcakes on the go are all the rage these days - first with Sprinkles Cupcakes ATMs, and now with Baked by Melissa's cupcake pod machine. The cupcake dispenser, which resembles a giant gumball machine, made its debut during New York Fashion Week, but those who were hoping to see it gracing city streets are out of luck.

The pod machine is now only available to rent for events, with a 1,000 cupcake minimum for five hours, which fills half the machine. Make a selection between either 1,000 standard variety cupcakes for $4,200 or 1,000 custom cupcakes for $4,300. Up your game by ordering 2,000 minis for $5,000 or $5,200, depending on which cakes you order. Any additional cupcakes go for $1.30 each.

Beaumarchais Celebrates 1st Anniversary with a Bang

Last night Brasserie Beaumarchais threw a birthday bash celebrating its landmark 1 year Anniversary in the Meatpacking District. The Parisian Cabaret-themed party featured burlesque dancers from The Love Show, cocktails by Moet & Hennessey, and mouth-watering red velvet cupcakes from Baked by Melissa. Guests were treated to a complimentary dinner (anything and everything on the menu!), which included delicious appetizers like Tuna Tartare De Ton, main dishes like Homard Rôti Du Maine lobster, and of course, their infamous $40 vanilla ice cream Mega Sundae. Doused in hot chocolate sauce, whipped cream, sprinkles with homemade chocolate chip cookies, and served in a 50 oz. martini glass, this is one dessert that is not for the faint of heart --or the calorie counter! To top it off, the massive mound of sugary goodness comes out blazing with sparklers. Yes, the same sparklers that come out when you order bottle service at a club.

Cupcakes for the Elite

In an event that’s too hilarious/sad to be made up, Red Velvet at 174 Rivington St. will be the first exclusive cupcake lounge.

Except it isn’t just a cupcake store, it will be the first (and by god it better be the last) cupcake dispensary with doormen. The uber-lounge will feature a pretentious, Eldridge-style door policy, so you better not be overweight and in sweats if you expect to get in.

For those peons among us who ignore the kind of bar that has laser engraved access cards saying “Guest of Matt Levine,” the Eldridge is a year old restaurant where the only way to get in is to be famous or a dear friend of the owner. Guests can’t even bring their friends, according to the owner himself.

Magnolia's Mini-Me

When the dessert tray comes around, don’t you ever feel like you want just one bite of everything you see? You’re not even hungry enough for an entire pastry—though you usually manage to eat every bite anyway. New Yorker Melissa Bushell left a boring career in advertising to devise a solution.

Introducing Baked by Melissa, a mini-cupcake shop in SoHo that looks more like a lemonade stand than a bakery. There are seven varieties of quarter-sized treats to choose from, including peanut butter cup, s’mores, cookies and cream and red velvet. The pick-up window at 529 Broadway (and Spring) sometimes draws a line wrapped around the corner. With a minimum purchase of three cupcakes, (for $3,) you’re forced to try at least three flavors.
