BARBEQUE
You don't come to the Big Apple to eat barbecue. The food of choice for tourists flocking from all over the world is generally a massive frozen hot chocolate a la Serendipity or a corned beef mountain that somewhat resembles a sandwich at Katz's or Carnegie Delicatessen. Street vendor hot dogs and giant pretzels are devoured and captured in millions of snapshots and live forever in photo albums and precious memories everywhere. People aren't coming to New York City to find the best dry-rub ribs they've ever had. That's crazy. Pulled pork has long been associated with the Carolinas or Texas, not Brooklyn. But it turns out there is more than just one flavor of sausage in Chelsea. And the brisket ain't bad either. Believe it or not- barbecue exists in New York City. And some of it is damn tasty. Here's a round-up of the best places to lick sauce off your chin:
This 4th of July Weekend, if you’re heading out to the Hamptons (and you probably are), be sure to check out Turtle Crossing American Bistro. Reopened just this year, Turtle Crossing is BBQ inspired and uses only fresh, local ingredients. It has also been declared "the best barbeque on Long Island" by the New York Times!
This weekend, the spot is offering special 4th of July deals at the bar. For $7, patrons can enjoy new menu items such as a hot dog Panini with gruyere cheese, chili sauerkraut, and mustard, or Montauk tuna tartare with avocado, sweet onion, and sesame seeds.
No, not Hollwood, California! Hollywood, Florida! Home of one of America’s best beach boardwalks, Hollywood has more than 7 miles of beach and some serious locations for awesome food. Here’s a peek at some of the local favorites. Best of all, they're all within a reasonable summer's budget!
Le Tub- Walk, drive, or dock your boat on the bay and enjoy what GQ Magazine has voted as the best hamburger, for only $11.00. But be prepared to wait more than usual for your patty, remember greatness takes time and a 13 oz. Sirloinburger cooked to order is worth the wait. Or try their claim to fame, since they opened 32 years ago, their Chili with ground sirloin, tomatoes, green peppers, onions, and seasoning for $4.00 a cup. Whatever you choose, rest a sure you just had yourself the best belly-busting meal for a great price, after a long day of gut sucking at the beach. 1100 N. Ocean Drive, FL (954)921-9425

Barbeque, a staple of the South, is blowing a great trail of smoke right through New York City. So much in fact, that foodies have organized a barbeque tour of four of the best BBQ restaurants in NYC - Blue Smoke: Jazz Standard, Rodeo Bar & Grill, The Hog Pit, and Hill Country. The tour gives you behind-the-scenes access to these restaurants to meet the talented chefs and pitmasters who are behind the finger-licking succulence.
