The BCBG Fall 2013 Collection during Mercedez Benz Fashion Week at Lincoln Center was inspired by the archiecture of Istanbul and the gypsies of southern Europe. There was a certain air of mystery to the packed show as Max Axria and creative director Lubrov Azria described how layering fabrics was influenced by gypsies that Lubrov encountered on one of her latest journeys abroad. Hair and makeup were kept simple, as most models had their hair covered by chic beanie hats. Nails were done by OPI in a dark matte grey which complemented blue hues, intricate prints, deep reds and black & white combinations that were showcased in the Fall/Winter 2013 collection. Leather leggings were also seen beneath many of the interesting runway looks. The music that played in the background made you feel as if you were ready to go on a fashionable adventure somewhere far-away and exciting.
Joonbug was able to watch the show at Lincoln Center in the American Express Skybox. Whether you were into kinderwhore or hypercolors, the 90’s were an exciting time in personal fashion. Not everything always made sense (ultra low rise jeans, anyone?) but it was certainly always interesting.
Naturally, the films produced during that time reflect this smorgasbord-aesthetic. Every girl remembers the first time they saw “Titanic” or “Clueless”. The True Grit star stepped out looking gorgeous in an all nude ensemble for the Miu Miu presents Lucrecia Martel's "Muta" in Los Angeles earlier this month, and we can't get her outfit out of our minds!
The 15-year-old beauty kept her look sophisticated and chic by pairing pieces in different hues and textures of nude. She sported a Miu Miu dress featuring a playful embellished "Peter Pan" collar with Miu Miu nude patent leather pumps and a golden Prada clutch.
Unfortunately for the short folk, maxi dresses are in. I'm 5'3" (shortay) and I've always wanted to pull off a maxi dress.
When style queen, Carrie Bradshaw, was seen in Sex and the City sporting a maxi dress oh-so-fabulously, there seemed to be hope but then I remembered I don't work out three times a day like she does and have the ittybitty waist with the curves, which makes her look taller than she really is. [not fair] Some shorter women look beautiful in maxi dresses but I look completely awkward and shortened. Is it just me?
Joie, a contemporary women’s line, is set to open the doors of their first ever U.S. flagship store today on 1196 Madison Avenue between 87th and 88th Street.
Based out of Los Angeles, the company embodies bohemian classics like flowing maxi dresses, linen pants and strappy leather sandals. The company began in 2001 with its luxurious cargo pant which has become a staple in their line. In 2007, Joie was purchased by Serge Azria, brother to BCBG’s designer Max Azria, and continued to infiltrate the market by incorporating a footwear line and the more casual but ever chic Joie Soft line. The new boutique will be carrying all lines.
Still want to stay fashionable, but being on a budget is the case? That’s what end of season sales are for- they're not just an urban myth, they really do exist! Especially at BCBG over on Powell Street or even in the Westfield Centre. The sales clerk will practically be pushing all fashionistas towards the sale racks! Now that the spring collections have arrived, the winter frocks and fierce shoes must be tossed out with quickness. Much room is needed for the new inventory, and winter stock is to be tossed into the next customers’ shopping bag.
