BEECHER'S HANDMADE CHEESE

FIRST COURSE
Happy National Grilled Cheese Day!

Say "cheese" today and head out to one of these top spots for a combination of crunchy, buttery bread and cheesy filling in honor of our favorite classic sandwich: the grilled cheese!

The Queens Kickshaw

40-17 Broadway Astoria,NY 718-777-0913

After hearing many good things about this grilled cheese shop in Astoria, we decided to go. It blew our minds and taste buds. Enjoying specialty coffee along with amazing grilled cheese sandwiches and washing it down with craft beer was quite an evening of fulfillment. This labor of love by the power couple, Ben Sandler and Jennifer Lim, is making many patrons infatuated with their product. The diverse cultural spin-offs of an American classic is what separates this shop from the rest. We suggest you try the Arahovas Feta with Ajvar Roasted Red Pepper Spread and dill on Focaccia Bread and the Manchego and Ricotta on Multi Grain Bread with Minted Eggplant and Capers.

FIRST COURSE The Grilled Cheese Martini
Grilled Cheese Martini

Remember when you were a little kid, coming home from school in the rain, dodging bullies, soggy and tired, and your mom would set you up with a steaming bowl of tomato soup and a...grilled cheese martini? No? Bet it would’ve made those hours of studying fly by.

Your savory sandwich wishes and vermouth dreams can be fulfilled at Beecher’s Handmade Cheese, now open in the Flatiron. The Seattle-based cheese making store and restaurant, which opened its first Manhattan location in June, is a “living museum where visitors witness the 5,000 year-old art of making cheese.” And eating cheese. Lots and lots of cheese.

The famous Seattle Pike Place Market features a cheesemaker named Beechers. Sensing the love affair New Yorkers have with cheese, founder and owner Kurt Beecher Dammeier decided to bring his handmade cheeses to the East coast. Slated to open in February 2011, the Beechers Handmade Cheese company will have 8,000 square feet of space in which to make and sell its famously delectable dairy creations. A below-ground floor will have, quite appropriately, a wine bar and cheese cave used for aging the cheeses made on site.
