BEST NEW CHEF
Every year, Food & Wine magazine publishes an issue featuring the best new chefs in the United States. It has been through the magazine’s Best New Chef awards that foodies throughout the country and the world have become aware of some new and exciting talent...sometimes right under our noses. While we all value the opinions of seasoned food critics and writers, it can be interesting to see how the professionals’ choices compare to those of the general public. For the second year in a row, Food & Wine magazine will be presenting a list of People’s Best New Chefs alongside its own selections.
Voting began on March 5th and will continue until March 11th. There is a selection of 100 chefs - 10 chefs each from 10 regions of the country - for which the public can place their votes. On March 12th, the winner from each region will be revealed, as well as the overall winner with the most number of votes. This overall winner will be named The People’s Best New Chef and will be featured in Food & Wine’s July 2012 Best New Chefs issue.
Chef Simon Stojanovic of Altamare, which has become an Italian culinary landmark on South Beach, is among the finalists in the running for the Gulf region. Additionally, Chef Kevin Cory of Naoe, Chef Jeff McInnis of Yardbird Southern Table and Bar, Chefs Jose Mendi and Sergio Navarro of Pubbelly, and Horacio Rivadero of The Dining Room are also vying for the title and are up against other chefs from the Gulf region. Be sure to support our local candidates and vote by visiting http://www.foodandwine.com/peoples-best-new-chef/gulf-coast before the March 11th deadline, and may the best chefs win!
Food & Wine released their 2012 People's Best New Chef Nominees today. The contest allows the mag's readers to vote for their top choice toques from ten nominees in ten different locales. Check out the list of noteworthy newcomers below and vote before March 11.
