Cloud Nothings/A Classic Education/Crinkles (Glasslands)
For the many avenues of NYC nightlife, traveling down the under 21 block is as exciting as the nonexistent streets of the Upper West Side on a Monday night. Key word: nonexistent. While we couldn’t find you a plethora of night hits, we have found some solid choices for all you Joonbugs-in-training. The perfect end to your first date- some dancing, bowling or maybe a quick concert- any one of these are bound to have you, your friends, and your future boytoy partying the night away.

The Bowery Ballroom and Music Hall of Williamsburg have just announced they will host "Petty Fest 2011" on October 5 & 6. The event will feature musical performances by Norah Jones, Ryan Miller (Guster), and Jody Porter (Fountains of Wayne). Comedy personalities Will Forte, Justin Long and Alia Shawkat (Arrested Development) will also be performing, presumably giving the evening a fun, if not ironic, atmosphere. Forte has performed with Guster before, though, so perhaps he's had some singing lessons in the meantime.
Their name lends itself well; they truly are darlings. Although the word deadbeat does not quite sum them with the same accuracy. Distinguished or delectable might be more apt, although it doesn’t quite roll off the tongue in the same way.
Name aside, Deadbeat Darling were hailed home like champions at the Bowery Ballroom in New York’s lower east side on July 9. Returning from their forty-three day stint in Wales in the UK where they were recording their second album, they headlined the sold out show which also featured support from three astounding acts.
Once upon a time he was a vague twinkle in a Twilight fan's eye. Already proving that he is more than just a cameo in a hugely successful movie franchise, it was only a matter of time before Bobby Long stepped out of their shadows and starred as the main protagonist in his own show.
"God bless Bobby Long" mused the lead vocalist of Ivan and Alyosha as he peered into an audience made up almost entirely of women. Warming up the crowd at a recent performance at the Bowery Ballroom, New York, he sounded out loud what everyone else was thinking. Bobby Long's appeal as a twenty something singer songwriter, with a charming demeanor and nice hair to boot, had not gone unnoticed.
Kanye West performed songs from his new album My Beautiful Dark And Twisted Fantasy during a live performance Wednesday morning at New York City's Bowery Ballroom.
Sounds good and clean, right?
Wrong.
Kanye could not let a performance go without spilling his true feelings. He bad-mouthed Swift for “milking” what had happened to her at the VMAs, instead of “defending” West. “Taylor never came to my defense at any interview…and rode the waves, and rode it and rode it.”
Hip-hop megastar Kanye West is playing a surprise show at the Bowery Ballroom tonight in the Lower East Side.
The award-winning producer and hip-hop icon is set to perform his new album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, in its entirety tonight.
Teyana Taylor, who will open for Kanye tonight, leaked the surprise news on her Twitter page Monday, writing: "Just got to rehersals [sic] for my performance with mr Ye West tomorrow at the Bowery Ballroom 2morr. Dark Fantasy Baby!!!”
Tickets went on sale today at noon.
It was an all-black psychedelic rock affair at Bowery Ballroom last Tuesday night. Trance-inducing rock bands the Black Angels and Black Mountain teamed up for their fall tour, alternating head line duties and laying down enough consciousness-expanding tunes for a crowd of Woodstock-ready proportions.
The Black Angels took opening duties at Bowery, whereas Black Mountain opened up during the next evening's second NYC date at Music Hall of Williamsburg. The crowd was buzzing right away with anticipation for Austin, Texas psych rockers The Black Angels. As soon as the band took the stage with ominous opener “You on the Run” from their 2008 record Directions to See a Ghost, the numerous sweet smells of a certain illegal substance battled the cool, stagnant air for supremacy.
The Static Jacks, 4:00 p.m., Bowery Ballroom

Do you wonder why you should love the Static Jacks? Well, it's easy. This band has a similar passion and camaraderie of your first high school rock band, the only catch is they're really, intensely good. The group is yet another beacon of hope shining in New Jersey, sending out signals that the scene is not dead. The live experience has fans remembering At the Drive In and Refused all the while realizing this music never left. My only critique of the performance is that we should have thrown the Jacks in a bus, high tailed it out of the Bowery Ballroom and propped them on stage at Madison Square Garden where their sound and energy could truly be harvested. The Static Jacks are musically begging to break down barriers and small venue walls, and soon enough we'll see them doing just that.
The Bad Plus, a revolutionary trio in the world of modern jazz, played their second show in the United States since the start of their fall tour, and the first show since the September 14th release of their new album Never Stop.
Embracing diversity as their strong point, and although Never Stop consists entirely of original tracks, Bad Plus has gained critical acclaim from their renditions of well-known rock songs just as Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit."
With a jaw-dropping, incredibly in-sync stage presence, the band wow-ed the Lower East Side crowd at the Bowery Ballroom this past weekend, following their solo opener Sam Newsome, whose flawless circular breathing techniques and slow, modest conversations with the crowd made him just as impressive as the feature act.
