CALVIN KLEIN
With spring right around the corner, it's time for everyone to take a load off and relax in some nice warm weather. Packing can be daunting, especially if it's a short getaway! It's all about fitting a versatile pieces into a small space. With all of this said, we'd like to make your packing (and vacation) as pleasant as possible with some key essentials that will help you gather your gear and head into your spring vacation in style.
Sunglasses are obviously always a must-have when going on vacation. However, if you are like the rest of us shopaholics, you probably have more than one pair. Am I right? Stick to the most versatile pair- we recommend the wayfarer style that Ray Bans have notoriously honed. However, if you want to branch out, don’t necessarily stick to the classic black or tortoise shell rims, go for a brighter color or floral print. It’s a shape that will forever remain in style, in a color or pattern that is super trendy for the now.
She showed us her funny side in Superbad; she showed us a more dramatic role in The Help. Now, Emma Stone is not only becoming one of Hollywood’s most loveable actresses, she’s one of the most stylish too! As a result, Stone has been on the watch at all the awards shows. Up next: the Oscars! Her fashion sense has evolved into a sleek, and elegant style, but she also knows how to take it down a notch with some fantastic RTW duds that give great inspiration for styles that don't have to break the bank.
The Calvin Klein Fall '12 collection exuded class from top to bottom. From the slicked down hair, to the timeless black, pointed-toe pump. The incorporation of polished leather coats, silver waistbands and belts, and mix-ins of mesh, gave the collection a very modern Manhattan girl feel. While the long hemlines, and simple silhouettes and draping paid were the perfect homage to the Calvin Klein name.
The colors used were simple, with the one bright red being the only real pop of color, and absolutely breathtaking at that. The silk patterns and textured cottons used gave it all a little depth, while still keeping the entire collection very minimalist. We loved how the a-line and full skirts, cinched waists, and high necklines created a very feminine look; with a charming resemblance to the girly duds of the 1950’s and '60s. The more risqué aspects of the line were quite tastefully done with the sheer panels that started at the neck and went all the way down to the navel.
We've definitely been obsessing over capes this season. We're not sure if it's their chic versatility or the fact that it's a cape and sorta superwoman-ish, but either way, we love them. One problem I seem to be running into (perpetually) is, of course, liking the most expensive capes on the market. Who else has this problem? When you walk into a boutique do you always make a beeline for the most expensive items in the store? Yep, guilty.
One cape I'm absolutely in love with is Alexander McQueen's belt wool turtleneck cape. Like most McQueen pieces, it's exquisite and so heartbreakingly expensive beautiful it could cause you to cry yourself to sleep at night. At $2080 and sold out, even if we wanted to dip into our savings for this one, we couldn't get our hands on it. So what's the next best thing? We're glad you asked! If you want to get the look, but don't have $2k to dish out here are a few options:
Monday night’s Elle Magazine tribute to the Woman of Hollywood event honored an amazing group of our most beloved starlets—but, of course, our eyes were glued to the amazing fashion on display. The event (sponsored by Calvin Klein, L’Oreal Paris, and David Yurman and hosted by Joel McHale) honored the careers of actresses Viola Davis, Barbra Streisand, Naomi Watts, Jennifer Aniston, Evan Rachel Wood, Freida Pinto, Michelle Pfeiffer and Elizabeth Olsen, and DreamWorks chief executive officer Stacey Snider.
Five years ago you wore your shirt tucked in. That is when stripes were fashionable and the checked shirt was still something cowboys paired with Stetson’s (or an item you wore when cutting up wood in a forest!). Then a few years ago, the shirt started to be worn slim fit and tucked in. Next it was paired with a tie. And now we have... no tie! So simple... so...minimalistic.. So... why did we not think of that before?
Everyone from Armani and Calvin Klein through to Dries Van Noten and Patrik Ervell demonstrated this trend for summer. Some designers offered the trend paired with a suit, others opted for a cardigan whilst a few went for the shirt alone. In all cases the top button of the shirt was firmly done up.
It looks like it's time for another wild weekend at the Hamptons, and here at Joonbug we have all the information you need to make sure you hit up all the right parties and events. Here are our suggestions for this coming weekend!

Cocktail Cupcake Party:
Hemline’s rise and hemline’s fall. Over the last few seasons, we have worn skirts anywhere from mid-thigh to on-the-knee. But mid-calf?
With the return of ladylike dressing, three-quarter-length skirts are back in style. Various designers showcased the trend this season, including Calvin Klein, Chanel, Proenza Schouler, and Rodarte.
Chloé showed the new skirt style in both structured and loose-fitting fabrics. A delicate, beige ‘A’ line, for example, was combined with a fitted, slightly iridescent top and tomato red ballet pumps to make the perfect ode to sophistication. Prada went bold, with skirts that were fitted and adorned with stripes in shades of orange, jade, and indigo, and accented by neon nouveau-baroque prints. A completely unique look, but certainly not one for the faint hearted!
Hi Joonbuggers!
A quick welcome to my new weekly column (and that was it if you missed it) and now lets get down to business.
And business it was last week especially for all the stores that participated in Fashion's Night Out, but more of that in a minute, first I want to talk about the sharp end of fashion week, the shows. I kicked off this season by taking a strut down to West Broadway to check out the new collection from Prince Peter, that cheeky little character talent who seems always to hang with the hippest and best looking people on the planet. As usual his show was full of great looking things draped in his designs and the liquor was free-flowing and plentiful which was a result for me because I then got a chance to eat it off by going in to see my old mate Kevin, the Maitre D at Balthazar which was, needless to say, filled to the brim as usual .
