Curiousity killed the cat through an adventure Midtown to visit a Saks Fifth Avenue and Whitney Museum's Young Designer Celebration; hosted by Chanel Iman, Amanda Hearst, Devon Aoki, Magherita Missoni, Valerie Boster, Martin Dawson and Daria Oberlander. What started off as a slow evening turned to be the best time to observe the exclusive dresses designed by Prabal Gurung, Christian Cota, Erdem Moralioglu, Doo.Ri Chung, Roberto Rimondi, Marios Schwab and Tommaso Aquilano - some of whom were in attendance. Doo.Ri, who designed a stellar blue flared hem frock with a stunning white & black polka dot bow strap, won the honors of dressing host Chanel Iman. As the arriving crowd danced to violins played over trendy deejay sets, plenty gasped at the craftsmanship and beauty of Christian Cota’s phenomenal cage dress, Erdem’s floral sensation and Prabal’s black and white contrast achievement by way of a cocktail dress. 17 dresses were designed in total by the designers, with many of their pricetags climbing into the four figure range; Cota’s cage masterpiece was priced at $3,950, while Erdem’s floral pieces began at $700. Guilt over the hefty cost was not an issue, however, as 10 percent of purchases will benefit the Whitney Museum of American Art.
Also in attendance was Fern Mallis, who recently stepped down as global ambassador of IMG and the face of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. Mallis will begin her own firm Fern Mallis LLC, with IMG Fashion as her first client.
Earlier in the afternoon Passion Style PR invited editors and stylists to preview the Fall 2010 collections of a plethora of designers; including Philippe Audibert, Hernan Lander, Marie Saint Pierre, Max et Moi and Mirjana Scepanovic. Attendees enjoyed Philippe’s ethnic beauty of jewelry, Max et Moi’s subtle glamour and Hernan’s edgy aesthetic attempts. Passion Style welcomes all patrons of fashion, press and media to their annual party June 10th; guaranteed to be a memorable event.
Heidi Slimane has created a memorial on his site for the late model Ambrose Olsen, who hung himself last week; Christian Siriano is rumored to be dressing Melania Trump for Monday’s Met Ball; Karl Lagerfeld is expected to attend New Yorks Fashion Week for an award ceremony and Fashion’s Night Out; Charitybuzz.com’s week at Vogue auction closed at $42,500; Michael Kors follows Calvin Klein’s Francisco Costa, saying young models are a turnoff. “I think if you send out an army of robotic 14-year-old children dressed up in their mom's clothes, I think the reality is that it's a turnoff, unless you are in fact a robotic 14-year-old.”; Naomi Campbell will visit The Oprah Show Monday, where it’s rumored she will sign a “No Throwing Cell Phone” pledge; Oscar De La Renta talks about the slack in couture saying, "Couture has become completely irrelevant, Couture isn’t necessary, even to promote the brand. Customers are smart. They know that a $10,000 wedding dress will look as beautiful as a $1 million wedding dress. Maybe it will not be finished the same way inside, but who will know?"
Paul Rowland, founder of Women Management and Supreme, has left both modeling agencies - heading over to Ford Models.
Rowland apparently left the company because he didn't get along with management - though it's said he sold the company a few years ago, but stayed as an executive.
So why would he stay so long, you ask?
“He had a huge salary there, but wasn’t really getting along with management. So basically, he just left," says an insider.
Every season people say "Marc is back."
But where did he go?
Though, we will say Marc Jacobs Fall 2010 bevy definitely reminded us of the Marc Jacobs before he was, well, famous and hounded by celebrities.
Perhaps, this season that was it, considering Marc didn't have a celebrity in sight for his cardbox-themed runway show. He also started on time (4 minutes before, actually). And, we hate to point it out - but, Chanel Iman didn't walk for him this year.
Adding to the fur craze that New York Fashion Week has been offering this season, Marc showed fur in his twisted quirky way, beautifully.
It's nice to know that even though male models don't always recieve the glamorous perks or fame that their female counterparts (say, Agyness Deyn or Chanel Iman) do, they still "fall" victim to some of their embarrassing moments (say, Jessica Stam or Katie Fogarty).
So rare is this instance that no one even knows the model's name. The unidentified male model fell during the Fall 2010 Vivienne Westwood presentation - with bright orange pants in tow. But, as generous as male models are, a fellow friend helped him up during his own parade down the catwalk.
We assume that this will be the first and last time that we will get the chance to boast about such an occurence, but every gender-mutual perk excites us.
Shot in California (but doesn’t it look like Africa?) early this year, photographer Mark Seilger shot model Chanel Iman as the trendy and stylish counter part of Mickey Mouse, better known as Minnie Mouse. Iman donned the famous mouse ears and sultry red lips to perfect the intended look. Styled by Madonna's long time stylist Arianne Phillips, Chanel Iman is seen in everything from polka dots to mouse printed dresses. Truth be told, this is the most enchanting Minnie Mouse I've ever seen.
ARISE: African Promise Collective featured four African designers from three different countries; Nigerians Lisa Folawiyo of Jewel by Lisa and Tiffany Amber showed alongside South Africa’s David Tlale and Madagascar native Eric Raisina. The show not only blew our mind with the supermodel filled catwalk, but also in how gifted and unique each designer’s style was.
Nigerian Lisa Folawiyo of Jewel by Lisa was first to show her collection filled with modern shapes, bright prints and hand crafted embellishments. For the spring season, Folawiyo took a cue from sassy, stylish New York women such as Sarah Jessica Parker. Jewel by Lisa featured high quality linens, chiffons, lace and silks seen in shorts, jumpsuit, mini cocktail dress and biker jackets. Let us welcome afro-chic to spring and the city.
Surely model-of-the-moment Chanel Iman isn’t already planning her retirement from the runway? It seems the 19-year-old has decided that conquering the fashion world through modeling alone isn’t enough and has taken some time off to intern at Teen Vogue. The excited model Tweeted: “U will never guess what I've been doing for the last couple of hours. Havin a blast interning at Teen Vogue!! Setup there closet like its mine.” No doubt she’ll feel right at home in the fashion closet.
I have to say that NYC is the capital of the world. Fashion, finance, art- a diversity of culture with an attitude. People are in constant motion, like blood through the veins and arteries, going and coming- never stopping.
I can also say that I have been blessed with a charmed life. Not that everything is perfect. Far from it. But, I can say that it’s certainly the journey and not the destination.

Last night I had the privilege of meeting and hanging out with Victoria’s Secret models Rosie Hunington and Candice Swanepoel. These two beauties were everything one would expect of a Victoria’s Secret Model. They were charming, funny, smart, friendly and by the way, drop dead gorgeous.
