COCKTAIL
Start NYC's Fashion Week off right with a special, red carpet event that will support the RedLight Children. RedLight Children is a global human rights nonprofit organization that aims to end the demand for child slavery and exploitation. Human trafficking is a prominent, global crisis that is often overlooked, especially in the United States. Come out for a great night while supporting an admirable organization and learning how we can join together to support an important cause and end child slavery.
Cuba has the Mojito, Brazil has the Caipirinha, Mexico has the Margarita, and Peru has the Pisco Sour. The Pisco Sour is a refreshing cocktail made from lime juice, sugar syrup, and Pisco, which is a clear brandy distilled from grapes brought over from Europe during the colonial period, and is instantly recognized by its frothy head topped with a few dashes of bitters. In Peru, Pisco is mainly produced in the southern region of Ica around the town of Pisco, from which the liquor received its name. Chile also claims to be the originator of Pisco, and the issue has been increasingly politicized over the years and has even been brought forth to the World Intellectual Property Organization, resulting in nine Latin American countries recognizing Pisco as being solely Peruvian. Regardless of the country of origin, Peruvian laws require that Pisco be made in the artisanal fashions that have existed for hundreds of years, whereas Chilean Pisco tends to be more industrially manufactured.
"It's Friday, Friday!
Gotta get down on Friday!" (Thank you, Miss Rebecca Black)
We all made it through the week. Congratulations to us. Now we must do ourselves a favor and buy ourselves a drink!
Whether you're relaxing or going out and partying (yeah!), try some Cîroc vodka. At a bar last week, the bartender was offering free shots of Cîroc vodka. Now, I'm not really a vodka kind of gal but we here at Joonbug, never miss out on a free shot. Vodka doesn't always go down well for some, but this vodka is an exception--it is smooth!
With Kate and William's wedding mere days away, the office of Joonbug, like most offices in America, are buzzing with last-minute details, tidbits and gossip of wedding madness about to begin just over the pond.
What will she wear? What will they arrive in? Who is going? However, all these questions pale in size to the real question: what are you serving? If you are celebrating the momentous day, why not gain some initiative, slip on that sexy white dress and plan a mini-wedding spectacular of your own?
Here are three quick tips to dazzle your hungry crowd in royal style without breaking the bank.
With Easter arriving in just a few weeks, Joonbug looks forward to the annual return of the Peeps. Without Peeps would Easter even be Easter?
Peeps came alive in 1953. They start as a mixer called “slurry” and then are whipped into their familiar marshmallow texture. Colored sugar is added. The marshmallow is then shaped into the many varieties they now create—from the classic Peep to the snowman for the winter holidays. After they receive their final decorations, they're packed and sent off to our homes via the Easter Bunny.
If you're spending the holidays with your family and need a stronger kick with your Peeps, try this adult-friendly Peep-tini.
Traditionally, vodka is distilled from grains such as corn, rye, or wheat, or potatoes. But the new COMB Vodka, made in Port Chester, New York is distilled from honey.
So why choose honey? Honey has just as many different flavor characteristics as grapes; it can be floral and fruity and has a natural sweetness that lends itself to a smooth finish when in alcohol form.
Despite being made from honey, Comb Vodka doesn't have an overwhelming or cloying honey flavor. The nose is full and has more of a secondary honey aroma, while the flavor is smoother and rounder, yet still light and infused with hints of citrus blossoms. Surprisingly, the vodka is not nearly as sweet as expected, making it perfect to drink alone or in a cocktail.
Dinner a deux doesn’t always need to be a fireworks-inducing gastronomic fête served up by the likes of José Andrés or Michel Richard. Save the excess (and the green) for your anniversary, and keep the first date just about you and the person you're with.
Keep it simple. The food should be good, but its cost and flair need not outshine your hot date (although, it helps from time to time). Book a reservation at a comfortable, slightly intimate spot and take advantage of the lighting - or lack thereof. And, oh yes, you may also want to make sure your date can sip something other than PBR.
It has been said that Paris is a melange curieux, a curious mixture of flavors, styles and influences. Chef Jean Francois Meteigner’s Cachette Bistro is exactly that.
Valentine’s Day will be celebrated with a day of amour tapas and cocktail savoir faire.
The “Berry Affair Cocktail” concocted just for this period of romance is mixed with St. Germaine-- a rare French artisan liquor made of stary white elderflowers gathered by hand from the foothills of the alps, muddled fresh berries, Stoli white pomegranate, and Fresita--a Chilean sparkling wine infused with strawberries from Patagonia.
It’s always a good thing to have a few tasty hors d’oeuvres in your repertoire that you can whip together in no time. Whether you’re having friends over for cocktails, bringing a dish to a potluck or planning an elegant starter for a romantic meal, simple hors d'oeuvres with a big “wow” factor always come in handy. For the amateur cook, crostini are a great place to start. They’re versatile, travel well, easy to assemble, and if you top them correctly, are a definite crowd pleaser.
This recipe for an herbed goat cheese spread is a fantastic base, on top of which you could put just about anything, such as caramelized onions and sautéed mushrooms, an arugula and radish salad, crispy prosciutto and grapes, or some roasted rainbow peppers. The goat cheese provides a delicious creamy sweetness with a lemony kick and is an easy pairing for other toppings.
To be honest, I have no clue why this cocktail is called ‘Black Cat’; ‘Purple Cat’ would be a better fit perhaps. But the sweet blue curacao, strong pure vodka and lime soda with the refreshing taste of cranberry juice, does make a nice tasting cocktail to get the party started on this hollows’ eve.
Ingredients:
1 shot blue curacao
1 shot vodka
3 shots lemon lime soda
1 shot cranberry juice
½ shot fresh squeezed lime juice
